I use crushed coal - to my mind it's the most realistic even when scaled down. ./myff/1834566/IMG_3167.JPG I make my loads removable so I can run the wagons Down the line loaded and return Up the line as empties. I'll happily send you a bag of coal for the cost of postage. Since we've replaced our f...

Joe More of a question, really. Is there a reason why you haven't joined the two long spurs at the bottom end? As you plan to run live steam it would give you a really long run which would add to the interest. You could still run off a couple of spurs to stations for end to end running if that's wha...

A little more progress on this. I've added rivet detail to the underframes and added more depth to the balconies. I've now fixed the railings in place (tricky as they are oily plastic). I've yet to add the interior but I thought I'd do that for all the coaches when they're finished. ./myff/1829374/1...

Re: IP Engineering Simplex
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of building and running an IP Engineering Simplex kit? No personal experience of them, but there's an article here that might help.... https://sites.google.com/a/gardenrailwayclub.com/club/locos/simplex-loco Graeme Thanks Graeme Coincidentally, it was John...

IP Engineering Simplex
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of building and running an IP Engineering Simplex kit? My railway is 45mm gauge but I'm thinking of adding a 32mm gauge feeder from the copper mines and a Simplex would be just the job to haul a few Binnie skips back and forth from the mine to the loading d...

Interesting question. I model SM45 rather than SM32 but when I constructed a set of coaches from kits, rather than placing the coupling on the drawbar as per prototype I, like you but with a 4mm modelling background, decided to fix the couplings to the bogies as I have some very tight curves on my r...

I have a rivet embossing tool which is simply a pointed bar with a sliding weight which you raise and let go. In theory each drop produces the same indent in the material and it seems to work. I made something similar from a piece of brass rod and some lead flashing - must admit I pinched the idea...
