Re: Sandstone & Termite

....Talking of inclines, there is much said about not having inclines isn't there. The number of times people say " You should have a really level track for running trains" I personally disagree, you get a better perspective on how to drive a Loco pulling some stock up and down inclines I...

Re: Sandstone & Termite

On the last two Fridays, 3 mates and I got together to run a few trains and for Geof to show off his new creation - a Queensland railways railmotor. Here's a compilation of my videos from the 2 days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdCFYYc94gs If you want to see Geof's description of his railmotor b...

Re: Sandstone & Termite partial closure

That tells me so much. Thanks Greg....Now I am going to a local Aldi in due course... :thumbright: Good luck! Like most Aldi specials they come and go and are never seen again. You can find similar ones on web - look under tower cranes. Here's a pic of it before I modified it and mounted on a 4-whe...

Love the photos of the crane. :thumbright:
Thanks Rod. The crane is just an Aldi cheapie with a few mods. I wondered about painting the yellow but then decided it shows up better in pics.

Re: Snowdon Mountain Railway

Great Video. Wish I was there. You sure picked the best day. It's a busy railway. How many crossing loops are there? I didn't notice any smoke coming from the chimney even though I could hear chuffing. .......I have only been on it once myself. Walked up and caught the train back down turned out it ...

Thanks Rik. It was great fun. Maybe I've been concentrating too much on Operation and not just 'playing'.

Re: Sandstone & Termite

I usually like to make my videos look as realistic as possible, with 'sensible' train operations. But with my daughter and 2 grandkids visiting from USA, it was time to just 'PLAY TRAINS. Here's a video that gives views of the train and (ugly) yard and 5 of us having fun. For a bit of a laugh, the k...

Re: Sandstone & Termite partial closure

Community protests have delayed the actual Official Closing, but Management have decided to press ahead with some siding track removal anyhow! So much for listening to community concerns. Luckily some residents were on hand to record the unauthorised work. Here Mr Chainsaw starts to clear a fallen l...

Re: Sandstone & Termite partial closure

I think that will work very well Greg. You will have the choice of a continuous run via the loops as well as end to end. If you have more than one operator you can have fun working out where you will pass each other. Don Yes. Maple Jn may become a real bottle-neck with just the one loop and no sidi...

Re: Sandstone & Termite partial closure

Thanks for the comments.
I know the track plan is a bit convoluted, so in simplified form, this will be the new arrangement. There is still a continuous run from Termite to Lilvale reverse loops. I will add a few more sidings at Lilyvale to provide more Operations.

Re: Photos with cardboard cut-outs

I am not having much success with a seated cutout figure.
So I changed tack - since the SaTR is supposed to be in the 1950s, I thought that a pic of me and my Dad would be nice to recreate.

Re: Photos with cardboard cut-outs

I dont think you need to worry about the focus. The cutouts are far more detailed than the available figures. ... Don A good point Don. I'm having fun anyhow. I was hoping a back view would be easier than faces and it seemed to work. Great idea, I love the last shot, the figure just fools your brai...

Re: Photos with cardboard cut-outs

Brilliant. The high quality of the modelling is shown by how well the images blend. Watch out you don't slip on that moss on the platform though - it looks treacherous! Moss? MOSS? The dedicated gardeners at Ti-tree will be most offended. That Sir, is manicured grass. Thanks for the nice comments a...

Re: Sandstone & Termite partial closure

Following on from the 1950s ‘fairytale’, this is what is really happening in 2019. Ti-tree station was part of my ‘round-the-yard’ line which followed the yard boundaries. See the plan further down. While allowing a continuous run, its main purpose was to form part of the single line, 200m long, end...

Photos with cardboard cut-outs

I like playing around with pictures of my train, making them as realistic as possible. One trick I have been playing with is to use cardboard cutouts in the pictures, to add detail that does not exist. In this example the charabanc in the background is a picture off the web, printed out on my home c...

Yes, one of my alter-egos.
Thanks for all your comments.
Just to clarify - only about one third of the SaTR will close. There will still be plenty to run (and maintain).
