As this is a look back I suppose we may hear more about the Mamod later. However mine with was fitted with a Tom Cooper gas burner many year ago never gets a run these days. Katie and Taliesin were much more fun and there are others too now.

Re: Termites again !
Greg these days in the UK all the structural timbers have to be pressure treated wood, things like skirting and architraves are not included. Also the humidity of modern houses is much lower than in old cottages and that discourages wood worm. The other problem is dry rot which is a fungus. There is...

I have very much enjoyed seeing Hambleden. I hope you will continue with the slow running and shunting that were a feature of Hambleden. I remember seeing Paul Towers layout at shows but the plants there were in pots just added for the show whereas yours will grow into the situation. I look forward ...

Re: Termites again !
Must be heartbreaking Greg. I would be tempted to use lightweight blocks to make support pillars for the layout and look for some of the steel angle they use for racking some if like giant meccano pieces. We can have problems over here with wodworm. I bought a run down cottage to do up. All the raft...

I have been quiet fro a long time. I have got the big shed somewhat near completion. trainshed.JPG However shortly after doing the roof I had problems in that all my body became stiff and movement difficult. Things like putting on socks or raising my arms above my shoulders were difficult. he doctor...

Re: Something a bit unusual - a steam railmotor
I love the Steam Railmotor Peter. I saw the Stg replica on the Bodmin line and was planning a ride. Unfortunately it developed a fault and I missed my chance just got a photo of it in the shed. On the Lining a friend who is a professional painter of 0 gauge locos uses a straw colour rather than gold...

Some lovely sailing boats. Dont think Iwould allowed to sail them on our garden ponds though. I like the idea of a steam launch though probably even less acceptable on the ponds.

Re: Planning a new line
Thankyou Tom I am happy enough wih the sketch as it will only be finalised on the ground. I could carefully lay out curves using offsets from a cord and all that but I find a few canes a bit of hose or rope and just eye it up works just as well. I cut a strip of board with one edge at the minimum ra...

Re: Planning a new line
Thank you gents for your comments. I take your point Rik the storage sidings in the shed will be low down so not intended for running merely to save lugging the all the stock up from the house, just the engines. However if I could put a link across where you are suggesting I could get a nice long en...

Planning a new line
Hi All Progress on getting other work done before I could start the new line is slow. However I was issued with a command to tidy up the railway area which currently has piles of bricks, stones, etc. The huge pile of briks reclaimed from some buildings taken down elsewhere will be used in the first ...

Sorry to hear about your trees Peter. We have our own problems with storms. We get shrubs so shaken about by the winds that the roots get loosened. Even small plants need staking. Plus the fence between us and the neighbours needs fixing. He hhas tiles off and we have to re-fix the edpm along the edg...

Nicely made Rod. I think it would look good with a couple of figures obviously shattered using it now parked somewhere while they recover. It could make a nice cameo.
