Re: 16mm scale "Linda"
Well I was sorry not to see Linda steam over the viaduct in her new livery, but I am glad to hear it was a simple fix!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
It's been far too long since I visited this thread, and I knew that there would be a lot to catch up on Peter! Very enjoyable reading... I do especially like the coach 20 divided in 2. Very much in the narrow gauge spirit to acquire rolling stock and then modify it to suit the line or purpose it is ...

That is a really beautiful looking tram loco Tony - and of course, capable of very nice sedate running. Brilliant.

Re: Ellie's body finished.
Really interested in the way you've made the lamp irons Tony. I must have a go at that! The result looks excellent. Once you'd cut it from the main piece, did you just file it down to size?

Re: 16mm scale "Linda"
I saw this really lovely paint job on Linda when I visited the Railway in the Valley of the Mill before Christmas. She just looks superb. I had to ask if the plates were printed - and it only occurred to me to do so because I guessed Trevor would give that a go. You have to look very closely to tell...

Re: Kerr Stewart 4420 - Live steam and 3D printing
Since I am going to follow in your footsteps with this project, I am by turns terrified and grateful for all the photos on this thread. It still looks amazingly tricky but the images to make everything really clear - including some parts that I have only seen completed/assembled. Steam motor running...

Re: PETG or not PETG?
I would say it is worth trying as it does give a reasonable finish and a much more durable print too. Just make sure you find the right settings for your printer for petg, not just temperatures but retract speeds, print speeds etc etc. The printer was updated a while ago with presets for PETG, whic...

Re: Dduallt Station building
It is actually quite easy to change the filament mid print. I got the idea after I realised that our printers had the ability to change filament mid print job. I had used it before when I was using up a reel of filament and watching when it got to the last 2 metres left. Well this is doubly useful....

Re: PETG or not PETG?
Really interesting thread. Since my Adventurer 3 was upgraded to enable printing PETG I've wanted to give it a try. But I do find PLA the easiest to print, your findings Rik seem to make my PETG experimentation even less urgent...

Re: Dduallt Station building
Returning to the forum after quite a few months... somehow with work and DIY my trains have been on the back burner! Anyway, I wanted to dive into this thread because I have discussed this build with Trevor (and now have his prototype!) and seen the model in situ on his line - where it looks fabulou...

Re: Double sided sticky pads which actually work?!
Is that a normal styrene solvent? I tried one of my styrene solvents and nothing happened. It's dichloromethane/methylene chloride, which I have started using for PLA also thanks to Philip's advice. It is, in my view, far superior to cyanoacrylate being easier to use and providing a far strong (wel...

Re: New slab wagons
I'm genuinely astonished at how well you can scribe MDF (I've seen Cain Howley do this too, he also has a fondness for basing models on PS kits). It's a material I haven't dared to mess with as I assumed if you took the surface off it would swell up when painted or something... I've heard a lot of c...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
The Corris (style) Station looks superb Trevor. It fits well with the concept of a 'compact' narrow gauge terminus we discussed at the mini-meet. If anyone wants to see any more pics of this fine railway, here's another one and there's more in my album from the mini-meet ... https://photos.simonwood...

Re: Zach Bond "Momentum Van" project
Re-reading this thread a few weeks ago, I noticed that Simon Wood had combined 2 Zecars to make a momentum van, something that I had considered but taken no further when I decommissioned the Zecar unit from mine. Having acquired, some time ago, a goods van (I think an Andel models kit) which proved...

Re: Binnie Tub Body
I might add a water tank, and a brake wagon to the range if there's any interest. Ooh, yes, there's be interest from the Moel Rhos in a brake wagon. I started a very crude coffee-stirrer brake on a Binnie bolster chassis to run with my skips, well over a year ago, but seem to have lost motivation f...
