Nice selection of plants there.
The ivy and the thyme should give you a fair bit of ground cover.
Good luck with the acers, all I do is kill them.

Ahh Creosote and engine oil. What mix and what a great smell. Nothing will grow within 50ft of it My tool shed is painted with this and the rain just runs off. Sadly the current wife as banned me from using it on the new shed. Too smelly & too toxic apparently (the creosote not the wife!). Mind ...

Major progress on the garden front. I have finally got the railway shed up and nearly finished. We have gone from this. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3737/11259181014_683088d071_o.jpg DSC_0172 by bigjimiflash , on Flickr[/img] via these https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7394/13365114693_eb927d7...

Have a ring around local timber merchants (Not B&Q et al) or sawmills.
Failing that a local joinery yard should be able to help. Most hardwood is suitable for outside use, a good does of creosote-type stuff works wonders as well.

Probably splitting hairs, but I was given to understand they were more like 12mm to the foot.
But it doesn't really matter as long a you think it looks okay, its okay.

Nice job.
I know what you mean about painting wasp-stripes. I had similar problems painting my current loco project. Maskol works quite well but can be a sod to apply.

I have used self tappers in the past and they seem to work well.
I do like the idea of gluing a bolt or threaded rod in the hole though. I might try it next time.

Scale and gauges aside. I don't see small children as being a problem. I have stock for my line that is 'Daddy's and some more rugged items for the grumper. It does give us something to do together.

Tea, very strong, very little milk. When the end of the spoon dissolves it's ready. On the hour, every hour with a few extras thrown in. Or failing that decent ale (6x) or scotch. Slightly OT but many years ago when I started working on vehicles. I was told by an old boy that Tea (or coffee) drinker...

Real cars, if more people drove stuff like that my job would be so much easier.

Small screws and Rawlplugs for me every time.
I have found that pins can work loose after a few years.
Good woodscrews can also be screwed in with no plug or pilot holes so a builder friend of mine told me, however I am yet to try it.

I tend to use matt or satin on most things. Matt with a satin varnish seems to work well for everything apart from a 'pride of the line type loco.'
I think these are better in gloss.
IMHO

It would be great if this comes to fruition.
Perhaps support from other celeb railway modellers, such as Pete Waterman and Rod Stuart would help raise the profile of such a project.

As a mechanic I was always led to believe that the most wear happens in the first 2 mins after start up due to the oil having drained back into the sump while stopped. If an engine has only been stopped for a few minutes then this may not be much of a problem and modern oils have much more 'clinging...

Good luck with the build.
I do like these locos. I don't suppose there is any real reason why Fowler didn't make any 15'' gauge I/c locos apart from not being asked to.
Go for it and keep the pics coming.

Time to raid the savings I think!
I had started to scratch build on one of these, don't think I'll bother finishing it now.
