Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Looks like things are progressing well Drew. Would it not be possible to run you track on the other side of the right hand fence, you could have a nice curve then for larger stock. I think I would be asking the "Boss" if it was possible... :lol :lol Above the broken concrete pavers? It mi...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Finally starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere! Five more wheelbarrows full of dirt this weekend, and the back half of the raised bed is at the correct level. I laid out some bricks to indicate the track alignment and did a bit of clearance testing with my largest stock. Bogie coaches certainly...

Re: Big Maple & Little Oak RR

How long does it take for the snow to melt and where does all the water go? Does it just soak into the ground? Looking forward to seeing the progress you are making. I'm not having much luck with making progress with my re alignment. https://ringbalin-light-railway.blogspot.com/2024/03/3-stage-6-02...

Re: How make stl files poseable with Blender

As I said, I don't see that sub menu (both in 2.9.2 & 4.0.2) on the default installation. At first I didn't have it either, but I did some searching and it seems the submenu is added by enabling an add-on called 'Rigging:Rigify'. See here: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/139069/newb...

Re: TVT - Down in the Forest Something Stirred

Looks great, and sounds like it's running well to meet or exceed the prototype. I really appreciate the battery power and motor figures as my current approach of "what random junk can I cram into this to make it move" has been, shall we say, unreliable. Seems like it's worth it to do the m...

Looks good Rod. The small controller is looking on with me and really likes bridges, here is his response: :?: :ugeek :thumbleft: 8) :o

Seeing it go from the pile of sticks to the finished product, I'm not sure I could've put it better myself!

You might also be able to fit a piece of foil inside the housing as a reflector.

That's amazing! You must have a phenomenal memory to remember that James was the mate I went with to India. I'm working my way through my walking mates for diesel names now I've run out of family members to name them after. Rik My memory isn't all that, I just happened to read the thread a few mont...

Here I thought it was ready to run out of the box :confused2: and you've gone and created something completely PLR out of it! Is that named after the same James from your India trip? For a special occasion you could paint the loco to match his fetching Tibetan jacket! Good choice on ...

What kind of printer are you looking at? A surprise sounds fun! (I also have a surprise project, but mostly because I forgot to post about it... and finish it... :dontknow: )

Lower voltage but higher amperage motor maybe? I'll admit I had assumed a PP3 alkaline, which is the extent of my experience with that form factor. :dontknow:

Re: Not sure why motor keeps cutting out.

I agree, in my experience those 9V batteries can't provide a whole lot of current. When the motor has to work harder it draws more current, and my suspicion is that the battery can't provide enough for motor, rx, and sound all together under full load. Some other battery suggestions: 6x AA alkaline ...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Thanks Rod. I'm intentionally limiting Phase 1 (this year) to a tight little loop around the ponds, but phase 2 (next year and beyond) could involve a spur to the left along the fence or to the right along the back of the house. My imagination is going a bit wild on that but I know if I dream too bi...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

We had a warm and sunny day today so of course I was out grilling and working on the railway. After emptying the melted snow out of the pond liners, I positioned and leveled them with a base of gravel and crusher fines. I started filling in the raised bed with dirt, rock, and mulch and packing it do...

Wow, that sounds fiddly to get all of the individual window panes in place... but I have noticed that coarseness in my own models, and I have no doubt it will be worth it!

Vintage footage

I just came across this video/film of a 1935 trip on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. There are a few station scenes which I found useful as I'm currently trying to build a small waiting room.

Re: Feldbahnmuseum Herrenleite

This came up on my recommends today, and while most of it is about the Gmeinder company's history as a whole, there's a nice Feldbahn demonstration at 5:20. There's also a very striking streamlined diesel at about 15:00 which is described as 381mm gauge, or 15 inches.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

That driver looks well posed. He's clearly just about to change gear... Rik He looks like he was meant to drive that bus, even if his height reminds me of a certain VW ad involving a basketball player . Or maybe he's just sitting up a bit in his seat to watch the rails ahead. :) The van looks right...
