Re: HGLW loco tweak
It's looking a lot better, but it's never going to be a Rolls Royce finish, methinks? Every time you post a picture I'm struck by how visually similar it is to my Gmeinder. It will be interesting to compare the two once they are both finished. No, I think it will be heavily weathered to hide some o...

Re: HGLW loco tweak
I've now done a bit of remedial work. DSCN3575.JPG Still some small areas of filling and flatting to be done, but the worst crevasses seem to have gone. DSCN3577.JPG DSCN3578.JPG In the meantime, I've been painting some of the cab interior detailing. Sorry about the major surgery to the driver, but ...

Re: HGLW loco tweak
I have had this a number of times spraying over old paint. Unless you manage to remove it all, unfortunately I fear it might keep reacting. Me too. I've usually got around it by filling and rubbing down the affected areas, but it's always a bit of a gamble. If all else fails, I'll just 3D pr...

Re: HGLW loco tweak
OK. So things are progressing, albeit slowly. After looking closely at the photo of the prototype loco, it was apparent that the cab isn't central and so, I decided to move the cab on the HGLW loco back by around 15mm. This required a considerable amount of hacking with razor saw and Stanley knife. ...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Well done, folks, for identifying the lamp. No way, I'd have guessed that's what it was.
I think I'll put a conventional lamp on my loco. Presumably, as this loco worked on a wartime airfield, it needed a blackout lamp.

Wow, that does look interesting. I've not used ESP32 but assume I can transfer my knowledge of Arduino.

That engine sounds a whole lot sweeter. A testament to all the hard work you put in.
Marvellous!

Re: HGLW loco tweak
either that or this manually controlled Phil Sharples loco is a tad over-priced Yup, by about £100!! Correction - I later spotted it is RC, though without a handset (see above). Still over-priced though. Even a new Micron MR603 is around £45 - leaving £80 for the loco????? Rik

Re: HGLW loco tweak
This somehow makes me think I got a bit of a bargain - either that or this Phil Sharples loco is a tad over-priced. EDIT It says it's radio controlled but there's no handset - so not sure what kit is inside . PS loco ebay.jpg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134949875697 Anyone care to hazard a guess as t...

Re: HGLW loco tweak
I noticed all the Regner locos in that video sounded noisy. Not sure if it is the drive mechanisms or, as you say, some other contributor.

Re: HGLW loco tweak
Looks good, Philip.
As I've got the HGLW loco as a starting point, I'm just designing and printing the parts I need to modify it.

The caption for that image says it's a Regner RSSB loco based on an O&K original, but not yet tracked down the real thing

Re: HGLW loco tweak
I once saw a video of a Simplex loco where the driver's head swivelled when it changed direction. I think it must have been on the 16mm Assoc Facebook page - I can't find it on YouTube.

Corr blimey! Incredible attention to detail. Very much a case of, if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well.

Re: HGLW loco tweak
I've been trying to find some photos of real locos of a similar design to act as inspiration when adding details. Not many around as far as I can see. Not overly keen on the blue one but the tatty looking greenish-grey one really grabs me...what is it's origin? Yes, me too. The blue one looks a bit...
