Very impressive, a lovely industrial looking loco!

I think it makes a nice change to see a loco that looks like it actually works hard for a living once in a while.

Thank you Chris for a very informative set of videos.

I think watching these videos for 20 minutes is as close as some of us will ever get to owning one!

Keep them coming please.

I've used an ACME sound card in my Ruston conversion and think that it is faultless. However, it is obvious after a while that the sound clips don't quite blend fully and don't really match what the loco is doing. If I was going to buy another I would consider the Chuffed2Bits unit but then again it...

not unless your modeling a passing loop because I'd have thought most modules would be single track as that it more normal in narrow gauge! If the 45mm version had the rail nearest the front in the same position I see no reason why dual gauge modules couldn't used on either layout. Only thing is... ...

Zach, why not build a dual gauge module? That way you could connect use it in either a 32mm layout or a 45mm one if that appeared in the future. It seems to be that 32mm is more popular and therefore more likely to get off the ground first, there is no reason why, spured on by the sucess of a 32mm v...

Extract from my copy of the "LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS POCKETBOOK" (dated 1926) ;) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8496/8337086829_2990b37e75_b.jpg Right...  N = Number of coupled axles, T = Tractive Force, L = Load on coupled Axles. Taken from the above book: N= 5T     2240L for those that don'...

I can think of a full-size example which tends to suggest otherwise. The General Electric ES44C4 diesels used by BNSF in the USA have A1A-A1A wheel arrangement, i.e. the centre axle on each bogie is unpowered. They also have a linkage arrangement that lifts the unpowered axle off the rail head when...

Surely you must get more tractive effort from a loco with more driving wheels? Take 9F for example, all those wheels must be there for a reason! Yes they are! But it all comes down to axle loadings. A 9F is so heavy that even with 10 drivers it still has an axle load of 15 Tons, this is very simila...

Non touching centre drivers should actually increase tractive effort, as the weight of the engine is shared over only 4 wheels rather then 6 and this will increase the friction :!: I believe a Ragleth will probably pull more than a Lawley because of this? (might only be one way to test it tho... Tug...

Looks like a nice finish! Did you use "Solar Trim" rather then lining tape?

If so, did you draw/print the whole of each section on the back and then cut it out??

I have been tempted to line my Ragleth with paint but haven't plucked up the courage yet! - Please tell!

Is that an OS 20 FS? I've been trying to pick up a cheep one of those on ebay all year but they seem to be very popular (collectable?) the the moment! It should sound lovely with a 4 stroke but you may need to consider using a flywheel to help keep the vibration down. Also I'm no expert, but as a fo...
