Re: 1:6 scale GWR Signal

No real lamps at this stage Tom (I assume that is your name tom_tom_go) but there is a bracket for one. Here's where I've got to today. The stiff wire for the mechanism would not work (bent under strain from 3-year old) so I have used a piece of spare dowel with eyes screwed in the end. Needs some a...

1:6 scale GWR Signal

As per title, for my 5 inch railway I want to build a few GWR style lower quadrant signals, As I am basing my railway around 2 foot 6 inch gauge prototypes, that makes the scale 1:6. Scaleway Signals make some beautiful models, 1/2 size and 1/4 size, and their 1/4 size small signal would be just abo...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Agree with the above comments. It's an exciting time when you have a "blank piece of paper" to work with. I imagine finding the time to devote to the railway will be difficult with all the other tasks involved in a new house although looking at the date of your posts that may have been som...

Re: The Circle Line

Very nice, good find, thanks. Well tweaked model. Someone should tell station road steam it is a Bo-Bo not an 0-4-0! As for me buying it I think it will be a while before I need a second loco. :)

Re: The Circle Line

Congratulations! I would of been in my element at your grandson's age driving that train. My imagination would of pictured it a much larger line where I had to pickup passengers and deliver goods. Thanks. There are already plans for a goods siding and a passenger wagon, so the current driving truck...

Of course he insisted on driving; he soon got the hang of it! :)

Re: New 5" gauge riding car

Nice. How do you find the 4 wheel driving truck for stability? If it came from a bogey it must have quite a short wheelbase.
EDIT: I see from the picture that you have reused the wheels not the bogey frame.

Re: 5" gauge 'Metre Maid'

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't serious about the eBay purchase. If I ever did get into live steam I probably wouldn't start at 5" gauge!

Hmmm. They do a 0-4-0 Sweet Pea as well, and there is one (I think) on ebay. Mustn't be tempted...

Re: The Circle Line

Thanks very much. I am very pleased with the outcome, quite close to how I saw it in my mind's eye last autumn. There were points in dreary days of March digging over the plot for the third time and pulling out yet more weeds when I thought I'd never get here. Confronted by 200 bricks and lugging 40...

That was yesterday. Today I completed the ballasting and final track checks, and went for a test run. All aboard!

Re: The Circle Line

Best I could do for an "aerial shot", stood on some stepladders in the corner of the plot. You can see most of the track, just waiting for the final layer of ballast.

Wow that looks amazing. I'm sure you will have a great time with it. Please document what you do. I don't think I could get an 0-6-0 on my 9 ft radius curves :(

Re: The Circle Line

Some testing of the track with a 100kg load on my driver bogie wagon. IMG_20190712_153301.jpg I'm finding quite a lot of dips in the ballast with this load. Also marked the platform clearances so I know where to paint the "stand behind" line. Need to allow room for feet protruding from the...
