Topic: Winter Storage - LGB locos in the garage?

Steven, I've been keeping all my LGB locos in a dry unheated garage for over twenty years, and I have had only one come to grief, as follows: It was converted to battery power, and when a water pipe burst one winter, the spray filled the plastic box it was in, thoroughly soaking the mechanism. By th...

In my experience it is not super and barely qualifies as glue. Not all "superglues" are equal, Tony! What you say applied to the little Quick Fix tubes one buys in shops. People will have their own favourite brands, and within each industrial brand there are several variants for different...

This is an accidental chuff pipe, Jim. The essence of the Summerland is that the exhaust is squirted across a sharp edge inside the chimbley (not the smokebox), while the smokebox provides a Helmholtz Resonator to deepen the tone (like the drum of a referee's whistle). (There, I've told you the tech...

This is why it's a good idea to build the underframe using a sheet of plate glass ( MUST be plate - it's better made and more accurate than window glass) While that was absolutely true once, the gradual take-over of Float Glass has changed things. - Traditional window glass was blown, and hard to g...

Excess cement can be dissolved with 'muriatic acid' from a builders merchant or DIY shed. It's skool name is hydrochloric acid, so take care!

As they will be for a Narrow Gauge Forest of Dean freight, maybe I should look around there! Then you'll want a pale ochre. These pix are from Clearwell Caverns mine which is open to the public and might be sympathetic to parting with a paper bag full. https://www.flickr.com/photos/nickkaye/2933166...

Re: Iron ore

Hi guys, Has anyone ever made an Iron ore load? If so; what is a good representative? Strangely enough, one of the best and cheapest is iron ore itself. There's a swathe of it running right across England, evidenced partly by the warm brown buildings made of it, plus smaller patches of varying colo...

You're right about the scale, which is hugely bigger than 16mm but not really 7/8". They were made for Tom by Roger Hines, who later downscaled it to the Mini Mule, still available from Essel (Stephen Lacey). To be fair to Tom, those were the days when "16mm" was even more elastic tha...

David I use about 98% yes some are a bit bent and so is only usable as short parts. Maybe some makes are better other? ./myff/1993490/IMG_2625.JPG My stirrers have arrived from the same supplier, but they aren't uniform like lolly sticks, and very few are suitable for vehicle planks. However I'm no...

Wow! Thanks, Steve. Any tips for a good brand or supplier, please? I've just laminated-up two 10" long beams, but my stirrers were so variable that I measured up three times as many stirrers as I needed, writing the widths and thicknesses on each one, then lined them up in size-order to choose ...

A lovely looking loco. What a pity its 45mm only. Mike, That's not really an Allen-key option with inside frames and outside cylinders. What full-sized manufacturers do is switch to outside frames with smaller wheels. That avoids making a narrow steam chest. This is a fast Main Line passenger engin...

Good find! And worthwhile improvement. I've done some serious injury to these - think Industrial Bandsaw - but, because I'm on 45mm, changing the axlebox spacing isn't one of them. However it will be for an Isle of Man two-plank wagon though ;-) So I'm pleased to see how you've tackled it. Thanks. S...
