Re: Cheapo diesel sound card
Thanks guys, that makes sense, I think. So are you saying that if I take a wire from the Ch 1 output, thats all it needs? BTW, it is currently configured that way deliberately, because I was using the inertia knob on the Tx22 re-programmed Ch 4, to control the 360deg servo which raises and lowers th...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Slowly slowly, getting there. This is the complete kit of parts, apart from the rear end face which is on the printer right now. The motor with long axles turned up from AliExpress a couple of days ago, despite them saying it would be 5th May! So the chassis is working although the wheels and motor ...

Re: Cheapo diesel sound card
OK, chaps I need some advice, or even just thoughts! I have a Deltang Rx41d-x-v5 lead-out on P2 passed through MA002b, configured as servo on ch4, sitting around doing nothing. I originally got it for the Austo-Daimler but didn't use it so it's currently working fine at controlling the Gmeinder chas...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway
Thanks Drew, it could be useful. I've seen a couple of other comments on the subject so it could be of wider interest. I tried using Giphy when I did a fly-round of my Gmeinder loco drawings, but I wasn't sure if you gif-ised a video or did it directly using stills.

June 2024 Garden Railway Gallery - ENTER HERE
Thanks to Lonsdaler, for picking the next theme, which is:
Garden Railway Architecture - Any buildings, so long as they are part of a garden railway.
We have seen some lovely buildings over the years, so no excuses!

Re: HGLW loco tweak
As Steve said, very nice all round, Rik. What speaker are you using, the small one that comes with the sound unit or a larger one? Does anyone know the techs of their speaker, ie impedance and watts? I found the exact same looking speaker as the large one on AliExpress. That is a 4 Ohm 3W speaker. ...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Would I be able to print that on my printer using PVA or similar. I have only actually printed with PVA though. It's just that you hear some stories about how difficult ABS and other filament can be. I have had some rubbish PVA though and it's been really terrible to use. I am no where near ready t...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Thanks Rod. This has been a pig to draw, not because it is inherantly complicated but simply to try to get all the component parts looking at least roughly in proportion, working only from the limited photo info available. I'm still not 100% happy with the interior cab fittings and the driver. I tho...

Re: What filler?
Interesting subject Steve, thanks. I used to use Squadron White until it changed, as we've said before. I then tried Perfect Plastic Putty because that was getting good review on the plastic kits forums, but I didn't much like it. More recently I've been using Vallejo Plastic Putty, which I like a l...

Re: How make stl files poseable with Blender
A fine example beyond the required add-on here is the use of the grab command; press the g key and move the mouse. Outside of computer games I can't recall any program controlling a function via the mouse without needing a mouse button pressed at the same time. It's always the price you pay with op...

Re: How make stl files poseable with Blender
At first I didn't have it either, but I did some searching and it seems the submenu is added by enabling an add-on called 'Rigging:Rigify'. See here: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/139069/newbie-question-in-blender-2-8-adding-armature-options-missing Tl,dr: Edit > Preferences > Add-ons...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Think I've cracked it. I modified the brass tube by filing a slot across the side of the inner end and then soldered a piece of shim brass across the end to cap it. Net result is to trap all the light and only allow it to shine forward. So, first pic shows it from the top with a minimal sideways lig...

Hi Paul,
I'm not sure why you don't see the "single bone" option. This is what I have, which is also what the video shows. Glad it is usefu,l either way.

Re: How make stl files poseable with Blender
Thanks guys - good luck! Actually I've just noticed a small omission which may be obvious anyway, but just in case it isn't, please note that the first bone that you create is the collar bone and it needs to be extruded from its origin at the back of the neck, to the top of the shoulder. After that,...

The winner of the March 2024 Gallery is Lonsdaler with " My Stock with Not My Stock". It's been an interesting one this time and the variety of entries has been amazing, so thanks to all who entered. So, well done Phil. Please may I have your proposal for the next Gallery subject in the ne...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Well, so far it's had an initial grey primer spray, 2 coats of acrylic black spray, a coat of black acrylic brushed on, and another coat of grey primer on top! Egg on my face, then! Nah, not really. It was a sensible suggestion. I think the real problem is that the light output from these lit...

How make stl files poseable with Blender
I recently discovered how to import stl's from the net ( or wherever) and alter them to be poseable in Blender. Since there was a some interest in how to do it, I've put together these notes, which will hopefully explain everything. If something doesn't work properly, please let me know. This screen...
