A belated Merry Christmas to you all! My wife gave me Peter Johnson's Ffestiniog book for Christmas, really lovely - I'm now deciding whether a proper full-length "bowsider" or one of the composite conversions of the 1880 full-brakes should be next on my "to-build" list... Cheers...

Just catching up with this thread - love the wagons (that plastic wood's more realistic than the real thing!), and the locos are very nice too...

Glad you like 'em folks, thanks. Once Christmas is out of the way I hope to spend some time getting these into a more finished state and then go back to the laser cutter for parts for more. The NWNGR had three, all long gone by the time the WHR - and so too the (WH)WHR - came along, but I plan to re...

A little more progress... Both carriages have now received a coat of a deep browny-red - it should probably be a deep reddy-brown instead (!!!) but it looks nice. It's astonishing how both colours change according to the light - in this picture the livery looks almost like BR Carmine and Cream: http...

I rather like "Service Person with Minibar" - although it looks like he's more interested in helping himself than serving anyone else...

I tend t go cheap and cheerful where possible, but some of these look useful, thanks...

Here's the latest on my NWNGR 4 wheelers... I've started painting, and the first one is now up on its wheels, the first time I've used IP running gear and couplings, so I wanted to make sure they worked well before buying any more. The lower part of the line was cleared of fallen leaves and other de...

That's looking great! I really like the way it goes from a fairly deep cutting to raised sections, just like the real thing. Loads of scenic potential too...

All the best,

Andrew.

They're not books, but you might find these videos useful, from the series that Ian Stock did. In these he interviews Andy Coward about his techniques: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhNhhYR2x-M&list=PLBE251BF165581B35&index=10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yplezxXPAY8&list=PLBE251BF1...

and still have unused credit with my Bristol-based cutter (cheap rates if you do it yourself, after an initial induction), How much do you reckon these coaches will have cost to laser cut - not including your time and bought-in items like wheels, etc? Hello! It's a little difficult to say as yet......

Hello again, The carriages are starting to come together into pleasingly chunky little vehicles, a little larger than Ffestiniog bug boxes. Not much detail on there yet, that'll come with the overlays once they're painted, but here's where I'm at so far - the basic bodies sealed and sanded for paint...

Andrew, I can highly recommend Mike for cleaning up drawings and cutting!  :D Mike designed and cut the seats for my Gladstone Car (further up the thread somewhere...) and did a lovely job... I've still got an awful lot to learn about CAD, and still have unused credit with my Bristol-based cutter (...

Sorry, not sure what make the cutter is, but it's Austrian (I think he said?!), with a bed size of 730x430mm, if that helps! The one in the photo looks like a Trotec laser, made in Austria by Trodat, the rubber stamp mob. A friend has one sitting unused under a bench in his garage, but I've never b...

Hello! Glad you like 'em... They're made from my own drawings, based on the one surviving photo of the originals plus the few dimensions in Boyd's book. In the photo the carriages are coupled to one of the NWNGR single Fairlies, so I estimated the rest of dimensions from a drawing of those, plus som...

Hi Joe, I'll have a look in some books when I can find them... As far as track plans and station designs go though I don't think you could go far wrong by adopting the designs they did get round to using - the slate and yellow brick architecture is very distinctive. Are you thinking of adapting your...

I'm sure you'll film it in action in due course - I look forward to watching!

Cheers!
