No, that would require casting or 5-axis CNC machining.

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

Forums are my life-line as there is very little interest in this hobby where I live. There is no one around to discuss ideas with face to face. We don't have model engineering societies like you do in UK. This makes it very hard to fulfill my ambition to manufacture locos. Therefore I'm greatful for...

Re: Battery charging advice please

Perhaps worth mentioning the above advice is for NiMH og NiCd cells. Lithium Polymer cells need to be treated differently.

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

I run a couple of FB groups and on the more busy ones I have a couple of co-admins that can also approve members. Always good to have several people to share the task.

Re: Building with laser cut steel

The cut width (kerf) varies with nozzle size, gas pressure/type, stand-off etc. but generally tolerances are within +/- 0.1mm. If I want to ream a hole to 3mm I cut it 2.7mm. Bend allowance is more tricky - there are formulas for that. Nothing to do with the laser really. However when I cut slots to...

Building with laser cut steel

I cut a lot of decorative items from 2mm mild steel for one of my customers. Some of the items are irregular shapes and even when nested there is a fair amount of leftover material. I thought I might as well put that to good use so at long last I've started playing around with designs that utilise t...

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond

I was not familiar with the loco but can't say it appeals to me much. Not that it matters as I'm not a potential customer anyway. I can't afford to buy locos anymore.

Re: Nameplates

Just to prevent disappointment to anyone, I should make it clear that this is not a commercial venture at this point and may not become one. AFAIK there are already several UK suppliers offering nameplates at very modest prices. I recall someone saying they got a pair for under £10. It would honestl...

Re: Nameplates

I'm not familiar with how big a nameplate would be in 00 scale, but a fiber laser is capable of very fine detail. If you give me some dimensions I can make a test.

Nameplates

I've just bought a 50W fiber laser engraver and have spent the day playing around with deep engraving brass. Results are promising so I will now be able to make nameplates etc. without the hassle of etching. Since I also have a fiber laser cutter, I can cut engraving blanks inhouse. 0.8mm depth, bra...

Re: Happy Christmas & New Year 2019

Seasons greetings from Denmark. As per tradition we celebrate Christmas on the 24th so I'm off to the kitchen to put the ducks in the oven. I'm self-employed now but closed between Xmas and NY. However I have a fiber laser engraver arriving on the 27th so will be spending time in the workshop tinker...

Re: Cardboard railway

I seriously considered making a complete 32mm or 45mm railway set some years ago - laser cut from plywood. Very simple electric loco and a couple of simple goods vans. Dropped the idea as I considered the market to be tiny for something like that.

Tempted but would probably go 7 1/4" if that were the case. I have close to 2.5 acre land to build on. Affording track would be an issue but I would probaly weld it up from rectangular lengths of steel. Then there is the lack of spare time.....

Re: Chains

At £71.82 for 300mm the 4mm pitch chain is a bit on the expensive side. About 12 times more than 03C-1. Of course if you need it, you need it.
