Just managed to get in a test run before the weather turned - you can see the first few drops of rain as the train passes over the viaduct.

Re: Otto bash
What's happen to poor old Chaloner Rik, is she going to get a look in soon? Hi Tom The weather has been so unpredictable, I've just not had time for many proper running sessions. On decent days there always seems to be something else which needs to be done (eg went for a walk with a mate on the Clw...
Re: Otto bash
That is a really nice loco and a clever adaptation of a easily obtainable model. You must be inspiring a lot of 45mm gauge modellers. That's kind of you to say so. Five of my locos are based on the 'Otto' motor block - but this is the first where I've bashed the body into something a bit different....
Re: Otto bash
Hi Jim
Tempting, but no.
I can live with all the little idiosyncrasies of my creations but I'm not so sure anyone else would.

Re: Otto bash
Great detailing - my fav is the water gauge - what did the glass section start life as? a square biro case? Hi Mark I cut two corners from the top of a pack of cocktail sticks. It was all quite serendipitous - I usually have a pack of cocktail sticks on my workbench - handy for applying small quant...
Re: Otto bash
Thanks chaps.
I think that'll do me for a while. Now got more locos than I envisaged when I planned the line. Mind you, I said that the last time, and the time before that!

Part 12a (for the superstitious) - Final(?) detailing Very nearly there......!!! IMG_6434.JPG Most of the pipework has now been added. I've decided to omit some of the thinner oiling pipes which spider across the running board but quite pleased with the pipework around the safety valves and whistle...
Re: Otto bash
A friend working in HO makes his chuff 'cam' by applying areas of super glue to the back of one of the driving wheel tyres on the uninsulated side, but he only has one wiper to deal with, as the return is via the axle. One of his locos has the characteristic off beat exhaust of that loco class, as ...

Re: Skebawn and Castleknox Tramway Mk. -erm-
Coincidentally, when I was planning the rolling stock for my railway, I did a quick survey of NG railways to get a feel for the sorts of stock they had. I can't guarantee the accuracy of the data as different sources I consulted came up with different numbers - and also railways (esp those in Irelan...

Looks like an interesting layout - plenty of different levels. Be interested to see more.

Re: Convert LGB
As said above, from my experience, it would be difficult, nigh on impossible, to regauge an LGB loco. The motor blocks are usually made from a single plastic casting based around a double-ended motor. If you tried narrowing the casting you would lose the seatings for the wheel bearings. Re: Cyclists
A recent police campaign over here suggests giving cyclists a distance of 1.5m when overtaking. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2017/mar/09/too-close-campaign-cyclists-safe-driver-overtaking-police Interestingly, the article suggests that the slower a cyclist goes, the closer motor...

Andrew, have you made the videos public?
PM me if you need assistance.

Re: Otto bash
I have a very soft spot for English 3ft gauge stuff. The extent of some of the systems was considerable and sadly not very well remembered. I agree Jim. Three foot gauge systems seem to me to have been very workmanlike - though the Southwold and the the Rye & Camber (and to some extent the orig...
Re: Otto bash
Thanks folks I did a quick test run yesterday and I must admit, she does look good chuffing through the foliage. I've been out all day for a walk in the Peak District (the Roaches) so no chance yet to make a start on the titivations. I'll keep you posted as to developments. I know from past experien...

Part 12 - Emerging from the paint shop Her first outing from the paintshop. IMG_6337.JPG I decided the spectacle plate was too low and so raised it by around 8mm. It was a bit of an effort but I feel happier now that she looks a little more like the original - slightly ungainly and, as someone said...
