Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill

Wonderful video Trevor, proper train in natural surroundings. I was a little anxious as it crossed the trestle though.

Re: Varnished finish

Does anyone have any tips for adhereing paneling so that a varnished finish works? My tried and tested method is to stain or paint the body shell and the panelling first, then varnish and finally attach the panelling using 'canopy glue'. It will stick well, dry quickly and any excess can be removed...

What a mess Grant, I'm sorry to see it that way, you certainly have some tidying to do.
Those trees look heavy and could have inflicted serious structural damage, it could have been so much worse.

If it's short, four wheel coaching stock you have in mind, you have up to eight in your hands already. Your four bogie coaches have the potential of being cut down and modified whilst improving your scratch building skills at the same time. If it is possible to re-gauge the wheelsets, axleguards cou...

Iron Cross & Wreath...gone, from the to-do list! One of the things I've avoided till now is the question of the couplings. . As an experiment, I tried completely printing the whole thing as one item, and to my amazement it actually works. So, this is printed complete, no joins :D Coupli...

Re: Wibbly wobbly roof

Rather than possibly repeating the failure I would strip all the roof section off the coaches and replace with either thin ply or HIP. I certainly couldn't live with that appearance after all the detailed work in the coaches themselves.

I take model railway magazine 'hand-me-down' issues to the Care Home where our model group meet every Friday for breakfast. Many of the residents know us and show interest in our activities, which we display there at events. The older generation have many interests and hobbies which they might not b...

Re: Baseboard Construction

Thanks very much for the responses; one query, when the gravel boards dry out have you had problems with them slightly warping across the width so, say, 4 laid side by side creates a slightly wavy surface making it difficult to keep track flat? As shown in my picture, I have more than four planks s...

Re: Baseboard Construction

I agree with both replies, my gravel boards (decking boards by another name) which are pressure treated, 6"x1" softwood, have shown no signs of deterioration during the past eleven years. Supported off the ground and covered with roofing felt they are still firm foundation. A coat of prese...

Re: What filler?

I posted a similar question just a few months ago and followed up on a suggestion from Rik and bought 'Perfect Plastic Putty'. My findings are that it does what it says on the tube! .... A smooth, one-part, fine paste which is easy to apply with a spatula. Designed for use on fine grained gaps and d...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd

Such a shame Phil, the expansion is quite pronounced in just a few degrees of raised temperature. The summer heat is likely to create further damage.
