Re: The Great Forum Railway Inspection

Love the travel wagon idea, but probably wouldn't work well hear with all the mixed gauges.

Re: The Great Forum Railway Inspection

Champion idea! I'd love to see the inspections resurrected, it was a fantastic read and great fun. Probably less contentious than the photo competition.

Re: Run time

Sorry Tom, I didn't explain it well, it's not that it's blowing off all the time as if boiler pressure is too high or that the valve pressure was set incorrectly it just wisps steam fairly constantly. It doesn't really bother me, and I never really thought about it until Mr Dodger mentioned it.

Re: Run time

Interesting thought about the pop safety valve - I hadn't thought of that and it does rather appeal. I thought exactly the same, I've noticed a fairly constant weeping from the RH safety valve. Are there any equivalent replacements available this side of the pond? Lovely conversion on your Sammie M...

I'd love to join in but have the slight problem of not having broken ground yet. Would it be ok to vote yes just out of an appetite to see what others post up??

Awesome photo Andy! I keep thinking about your idea of RLR mk2, have you got any further with your designs? Please keep the pics coming.

Re: What did your pets have for Christmas?

Very sorry to hear of your loss Jim, losing a pet is never easy.
Our two dogs were spoiled rotten on Christmas day, venison steak (home butchered road kill) with left over duck pate, pig in blanket and a tiny drop of gravy.

Re: New blog post - planning a garden railway

Hi Rik,

Being a newcomer and still in the planning stage I found it very useful and informative so I think it's spot on :thumbright: !
The only thing I would like to know more about is spring loaded points (or is that becoming too detailed for an intro?).

Re: Gas torches

Hi Rod,

You might be able to use your canisters with it, using the same loco adaptor, I can't remember if it will only work with butane.

Re: Gas torches

I've got a gascat (60 iirc), little gas torch which comes with a few different attachments. The blow torch end is great for soldering large joints and the hot air attachment is great for shrink wrap. Costs about £30ish and I love it, oh and using lighter gas.

Hi Tom, Rather than lose enthusiasm I find it migrates. I am another one of those with far to many hobbies so I find I stop working on one and get on with another. Have you got other projects on the go? I've been spending a lot of time gardening which isn't really progressing any projects (apart fro...

Re: Intentional bumps

I've been thinking about this, in fact every time I run on my mates railway. I watch the loco comes to a halt, the momentum keeps the rake rolling for a bit and then they roll back slightly so all the chains are taut. The loco then has to raise enough pressure to not only move itself but whole rake,...

Re: Clatterbach Valley Light Railway

Hi CSL, I went through exactly the same thought process, I too was quite keen on the Brunswick green but feared it would disappear into the garden. I quite liked the Victorian maroon, I've seen it on a few locos and thought they looked smart and quite a classic colour. In the end I went for blue (bs...
