Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I do have an update on the battery situation after all this time. Component Shop are still showing 'no stock' of many of their battery products but have supplied me with individual tagged AAA low self discharge batteries which are now made into a single eight pack, (4 square + 4 square) which fit in...

Another wonderfully adapted kit from Scum Class Works. You always go the extra mile, and it shows in the detailing.

Re: What kind of traction engine is this?

From here in the UK it is impossible to imagine the vastness of the USA Great Plains, but I have to wonder about the thought process of building a machine so big it takes an army of up to 30 operators, an engineering team with lifting equipment to assemble and maintain, and a back-up haulage system ...

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco

I totally agree with your comment Andrew and I work in a similar way, usually using epoxy adhesive etc... From my experience with attaching plastikard to plastikard using solvent, even on large section such as structures, I have found solvent works well enough on its own.

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco

Greg, I'm really surprised that you feel the need to add this mixture. I find that plastikard forms a strong bond if a solvent (eg. EMA Plastic Weld) is used to weld the surfaces together.
Tube glues, or superglue don't have the same effect as they just sit on the surface.

A fine looking beast indeed! Lots of detail included too. I imagine those who have 3D printing skills would appreciate it even more.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

That's what a kitchen table is for..... right? 100_0726.JPG I have been working away making lots of new stock items but given no thought to their secure storage, until I found myself short of space! A determined effort to create boxes to allow them to be stacked and keep them safe from damage had to...

Narrow Lines Magazine #126

I'm always on the lookout for any publication containing articles about the work of Rowland Emett. Currently on eBay there is a 'Narrow Lines' magazine, vol. 126, dated December 2000/January 2001, which has 'Far Twittering and Oyster Creek Railway' listed as one of its articles. Unfortunately, despi...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Thanks Zak, I'm glad you approve. You are most welcome to visit but my line is 32mm gauge and I think your Garratt is 45mm, but possibly adjustable?
I'm seriously planning a second Garratt now, most likely a K1, but waiting on suitable power bogies supply.

They do look really good and well thought out to get the best finish. I think you should be quite safe with a spray coat of matt or satin lacquer on both sides to seal them against the weather.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I'm becoming more drawn-in to this project with the challenges involved. I don't try to make accurate models, just representations of the prototype, so I feel fairly confident I can make it look OK. The most important thing is to make it work and give the impression of the real thing, after all, the...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Thanks Graeme, and dudeface. The video link supplied shows the articulation from an end-on view, something not usually filmed. The usual side views make the tender appear to be a continuation of the cab, but that makes no sense. I understand now how it extends into the cab. With the tighter radius o...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Meanwhile I have been viewing Greg's multiple Garratt videos with envy and wondering whether I can justify a second Garratt on my line? Surely the real question is whether you can justify not having a second one? I should have got into so much more trouble during my lifetime.... I'm so easily led! ...
