Re: Why Live Steam?

For what it's worth my son and I run both live steam locos, electric shunters and a railbus. We love the initial faffing, just like the real thing, with the steamers. While they are boiling up we will make up a train or two with a shunter and send the railbus off with the first service of the day. T...

Interested to see how smoothly it accelerates and slows down to a stop.
I'll be more than happy to when I get the RC fitted.

And I did get the obligatory socks and smellies too. ;)

Mamod Boulton arrives on the CVLR

This turned up under my tree Christmas Day; a Mamod Boulton. Love the chunky looks and first impressions on track are very favourable with smooth slow running and impressive pulling power. After super detailing, de-brassing, repainting the buffer beams red, weathering and the addition of RC I'll be ...

Re: Compton Valence Light Railway

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been a bit busy....not adding to the layout unfortunately. Just waiting for a pallet of concrete blocks to be delivered to support the non ground level track bed planks and then construction will start in earnest. I've been railway modelling for years actually R...

Re: What is Santa bringing you

I had a quick go just to make sure it worked before Santa"s elves whisked it away to be wrapped and I'm quite impressed; chunky looks, very slow running ability and quite a load hauler. A bit of detailing and she'll be alright. I'll keep you posted. 😊

Re: Compton Valence Light Railway

Many thanks for all the positive comments folks they're much appreciated.

Your YouTube videos have been quite an inspiration for me Rik so if I end up with a layout half as good I will be well chuffed. ;)

Just wondering if this should be moved to the Railways and Layouts section so I can make it ongoing? Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Building the Compton Valence Light Railway gets underway

It's a tanilised timber frame 'L' bracketed to an existing concrete path, topped with felt covered exterior ply. I wanted ventilation underneath as it's so close to the house wall. The cottage is so old there's no dampcourse, just 2' thick walls! It will be ballasted, and have rocks and a gravel pat...

Re: Building the Compton Valence Light Railway gets underway

It's a very old converted dairy. If you look closely you can see the blocked in doorway at the far end where they used to take the cows in for milking. And yes, it will make a great backdrop especially as tnere's a profusion of Mind Your Own Business growing up the wall ready to creep over the track...
