Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Hello! According to the 7mm Assoc's book of FfR drawings, "tractors, introduced during the Stephens period, were plain green with black running gear. The Baldwin may have sported red painted rods and fly cranks". I guess that's either the kind of mid, kind of municipal-looking, green seen ...

Re: Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*
Should it be cannibalised to make something else? Ooo-er! I imagine, judging by the width of the locomotive to the track, it must be loosely Gauge 1, which would be too small for me. But we'll need to get some dimensions! Yes, I wondered if it was too small - could it be the basis of a B Scale &quo...

Re: Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*
everyone who’s interested has seen it... I somehow hadn't - but I have now! I'd watched lots of the videos before (through this forum), but hadn't visited the site, which I think is fantastic, refreshingly different from so many other railway websites. I must give mine an update, haven't for years....

Sorry, can't help with the couplings, but the wagons look very nice indeed! They'll look even better behind your Baldwin...

Re: IP Engineering Open Cattle Wagon
I have been wondering if I can somehow make a plaster cast of a load of heads and backs, maybe using plasticine as a mould.... ???? I was wondering that - or I think I was! Model the sheep jammed in tight so that you don't have to worry about detail? I'd wondered whether suitable shapes could be ca...

They're looking very good Rik, as do the figures - and it's great to see the PLR gearing up for another season!

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past
Yes please, I'd like to contribute if funds are running low. I think I missed this the first time around, it may have been during my time away from the forum - rather naively perhaps, I hadn't actually realised that money was an issue.

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Thanks chaps, much appreciated! Peter, prosaic as it sounds, I'm afraid Rik's correctly identified the writing on the wall - "signal box back". I'm very impressed you could read it from the photo Rik, I had to check on the real thing! Glad you like the planking effect too - although, since...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Thanks Andrew, interesting stuff... I hadn't realised that trailable points and weighted ones were different, maybe the author didn't either? And green levers sound great - really, all I'm after is a reason to have as many different coloured levers as possible without compromising too much on realis...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
I just made the fatal mistake of typing a long reply and then finding it didn't post and lost it! My fingers are tired so here's a brief summary of the bits about signalling layouts. Thank you! I really appreciate it! And sorry about the aching fingers! Your comments on looking for material on WHR/...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Wow! This is spooky. It certainly is! Nice 'box, Bertie! The additional detail you've added looks fantastic, a huge improvement on the basic Jackson model - I didn't recognise it! As you've seen, I'm using Jackson embossed sheets too, and I'm guessing we'll go for similar colour schemes (my guess a...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
My short-haired cat is black and white, can he have a mention? I'm hoping to hand cat-painting duties over to my wife when the time comes - send me a photo (or one of each side?!) and I'll see what I can do! I use acrylic spray paint, Halfords etc. and it stands up to all weather conditions, so you...

Re: More figures for the PLR
Nice figures! As I recall, the dancing chap used to be sold by Brandbright as a ticket collector, and came with a tall stool to sit on? His left leg was on the floor, with the right one on a strut between the stool's legs and one hand holding clippers, the other reaching out for a ticket... I wonder...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Hello again, I'm on a bit of a roll with the 'box now, aided by a couple of days of annual leave. Here's the current state of play - externally it's essentially complete apart from a few details and some filling and sanding: Signalbox 8.jpg Signalbox 9.jpg As you can see, this part of the railway is...

Re: Talyllyn Railway
Does anyone know how I can get in contact with author Bernard Rockett? Reading 'The Old Tal-y-llyn' book from his 16mm scale drawing series he gives a c1878 date for Talyllyn returning to Whitehaven but I can't recall any other book suggesting this and am curious to know where the footnote was pull...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Those are very nice kits, aren't they? I love the chunky running gear - it's going to take more than the odd derailment or two to damage those... Lovely finish too Peter...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Excellent news re the inspector! Even I'm horrified by the state of my line at the moment, and I've got pretty low standards... I think he's of elsewhere between your garden and mine too, so I should have time to create some semblance of order! Enjoy your hols!

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Well, with my Pway hat on I have no doubt that the platelayers would quickly commandeer such salubrious unused accommodation as a cabin for their meal breaks. (there's more than one precedent for this too!) Such a use would make a cat a welcome addition to keep the vermin at bay. No one want's to c...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings
Ah yes, I forgot we had a real signalman on the Forum! Unfortunately, it's the mid twenties in my back garden, so on the WHR the signals have been chopped down and the box is disused... I think I'll model the levers, a stove and some furniture under dust sheets, but assume that the other kit has bee...
