Re: Cold Cure Required
Not a cure Jim, but something to consider once you're well - we have a burgeoning group of open air swimmers in the Dales, and one of the supposed benefits of a regular cold dip is that you don't fall foul of the dreaded lurgue (apparently  ) Get well soon! :) It might be colder further nort...

Re: Much modified HGLW Mochyn visits the LBBR
The coal trucks are Phil Sharples, but I'm afraid the guards van is a scratch build, to accompany the narrower stock that suits this loco - the chassis is a flat bed wagon made by Binnies, and the rest is all "out of me 'ead" It looks great with the small wagons. Your 'ead is an excellent...

I love that little loco. Are those Phil Sharples coal wagons? They look excellent with those loads. Can I ask - where is the brake van from? It's perfectly suited to those little wagons.

Re: Brick Size
Wickes give the following dimensions for an engineering brick:
Height: 65 mm
Length: 215 mm
Width: 103 mm
So in 16mm scale, 3.5mm x 11.5mm x 5.5mm to the nearest half mm.

The colour scheme is terrific - it looks even better when you see the coaches in a rake. Wonderful

Great tip - thanks!tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:41 pm If you heat the chain up (to the point that it is glowing) and then cool quickly in water that will give them a weathered look.

Your pavements in the rain are virtually indistinguishable from 1:1 scale. Incredible. And marvellous.

A few years back I came across an excellent but small range by 'Mike's Marvellous Models' which had everything that I was looking for in the way of detail and accuracy, even animals, he appeared at a few garden railway shows but I haven't seen anything of him for a couple of years now. I got 4 figu...

The Glamorgan & Gwent Group, probably the nearest to you, meet in Cardiff usually every Wednesday evening. As Peter says, we meet at our track in the grounds of CMES (Heath Park) in the Summer (so tomorrow's probably our last outdoor meeting of the year) and we meet indoors through the rest of t...

Re: Plants for Garden Railways
I'm on clay. I've had thyme that has absolutely thrived for well over year - plant getting bigger and bigger. Then whole chunks die off until the entire thing is dead wood. I've still got a couple of the cuttings going that I took when it was thriving, but I've no idea how to stop them going the sam...

Re: Surface mount soldering
Have now backed up the entire drive on another ext drive. Will consider uploading to the cloud but as I have nearly 1Tb of pictures and video will have to see how I can do that cost effectively. Cloud is convenient, but it may be more cost effective to copy onto another drive and leave it with a fr...

Re: Surface mount soldering
Hopefully that will keep the old drive going with a new lease of life. But if I may get up on my soapbox for a moment - once you have it working, backup, backup, backup! I'd recommend no fewer than 2 backups, preferably with one off-site. It may sound obsessive - but you can replace your drives, not...

I wouldn't be much help with the soldering I'm afraid! But I wonder - how is the board connected to the drive? Just thinking if it's a standard IDE or SATA connector you might be able to recover the photos that way.

I am really enjoying all these soft fruit trains. It is making me think I should build a siding over to the blueberry bushes. Anyway, looks delicious. Plum pie?

New locos from Roundhouse & Accucraft Sept 18
At the Llanfair show, Roundhouse and Accucraft announced some new models. Roundhouse have a new 'basic' series freelance 0-4-2 tender loco 'Jennie'. They did actually have it at the show; unfortunately I failed to take a photo  Accucraft will be doing a 7/8ths Kerr Stuart Wren . They also have...
