Re: NWNG Railways No.1
Hi Phil. I had thought about both possibilities but looking at the faded plan on page 1 of this thread and a drawing in the section on the NWNG railway in the book by Boyd, Narrow Gauge Railways in South Caernarvonshire, it looks to me that only the partition ajoining the 1st class compartment goes...

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales
I wouldn't go that far but as I removed it when remodelling our kitchen, I recognised it's potential for 'something useful' on the railway. I think most of us have a pile of 'that'll come in handy' stuff, don't we?tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2017 8:27 am Using an old fluorescent light body for the bridge, genius!

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales
Loving the bridge - the pics at the end show the benefit of the open design - makes my plank bridge look a little spartan - how did you construct the fences along the bridge? Thanks Mark, I was 'inspired' by the old bridges on the WHR, near Snowdon Ranger, before the line re-opened. You used to be ...

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales
That bridge looks superb, worth all the hassle I'd say. Thanks for the blow by blow ( :D ) account of construction. Re the foam board, a very useful tip I picked up from, I think, JOhn ( FBGR), is to use the adhesive sold to plumbers to solvent weld waste pipes. You have to get it from behind the c...

Re: NWNG Railways No.1
Hi all. I have cut the partitions to width but while thinking about the height i looked back at my paperwork to see that the coach had 3 roof oil lamps. It seems that the central 1st. Class compartment had a lamp of its own but the two compartments either side of this one shared a lamp between each...

Re: The Saga of the Lune Crossing part 2
The mistake on the width of the handrails was easily rectified by moving the stanchions to the very ends of the elongated sleepers (photos here are before this was carried out). The track was hand made using Peco rail and fixings, pinned to the sleepers. bridge12.jpg bridge13.jpg bridge14.jpg The He...

The Saga of the Lune Crossing
I wanted the bridge over the pond (I mean River!) to be of an open construction, to allow for the desired reflections of trains in the still waters of the Lune  The first job, however, was to construct the piers on which it would sit. To create the bridge piers, I was tempted to try a techniqu...

I am in complete awe! Those are wonderful detail additions. I hope you have a plan in mind to ensure they are visible in the finished station building?

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales
Despite the summer weather reverting to the norm for the Northwest of England*, the Bogg causeway was raised a scale four feet six inches, but the track had not yet gone back down. This will also require the building of some 800 scale feet of scale five foot high retaining walling! coos and ...

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales
In early 2016, my wife finally decided to retire from her physically demanding job in the NHS, and is now taking an even more keen interest in the garden. An unexpected bonus has been that she now appears to view the railway as an asset, rather than a liability  Discussions led to an explor...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
The Goo I use to stick foamboard to foamboard and plasicard to foamboard is Wickes Solvent Cement, made for sticking together plastic RWPs – you have to ask for it as it is kept behind the counter. Its about £4 for 125ml pot – it goes un-runny in the pot quite quickly if you leave the cap off. Here...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway
Hopefully we should be having warmer evenings soon so in preparation for late running services the RWLR only coach has been fitted with lights for it's non-existent passengers: https://youtu.be/gvlOyBoPizw If you have a local B&M to you they are selling these lights at £2.99 for a pack of 10 co...

As Jim says, thanks Rik. I'm still going to have to find some quiet time to digest it, I think, but certainly more helpful than the less than informative instruction sheet

Have you tried using sanding sealer? I've used it on mdf with pretty good results.

Re: Springy wire
'Piano wire'? It's spring steel ,and easily available from model shops, in varying thicknesses (google is your friend). From my boat modelling days, I'm fairly sure I have successfully soldered it (a lot of dust on that archived memory file! )

Re: Deltang rx
Hi Jim ... I would recommend a decent intelligent charger though, such as the iMax B6 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132059016298. It can be a bit intimidating when first out of the box (the instructions are largely incomprehensible), but once it's set up (I could help you with that), it's a doddle to...

Re: LVLR broken ankle projects
Nice! The unified colours really set things off. I have your 'wc' as a platelayers hut. Did the station building come from Model Town as well?
