I’m taking a few liberties with it, of course, but it’s coming along quite nicely, I think (unlike the garden).

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“Was there a nightclub in Woolwich?!” I didn’t know of one. The place I recall (mid 70s) was the Tramshed which did gigs and comedy. Haven’t been there since. And anyway, ‘when I was a lad, etc, etc…’ I think most clubs did live music. Not what they later became, post punk — and nowhere near as man...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“…a night out in New Cross” I like the all-over ‘freight grey’ livery on 33s (though I’d never be able to make a decent 3D double-arrow logo for the cab side), similarly, I think the ‘sectorisation’ freight livery design is inspired — but, weirdly, I don’t think I ever saw either of these on a 33 a...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

I finally managed the pilgrimage to the Spa Valley Railway — between covid and cancelled and/or rescheduled holidays and travel — for a solitary orgy of Thumper noise and Harvey’s Best Bitter. It was another quiet, lovely day but I was surprised to find that, sadly, my iPhone videos suffered from in...

locos_0626_2SB.jpg Permanently equipped with appropriate Deltang/Micron ! I haven’t quite worked my way through the list of cosmetic tidy-ups but at least variously appropriate Deltang / Micron receivers have now been installed in everything that isn’t actually in bits on a shelf somewhere upstairs...

Rik — Perfectly OK — Not what I meant to suggest. Always been slightly awkward about the funnel, it is a bit big.

Ouch! Partly because of Bulleid’s enthusiasm for multiple jet blastpipes (wide chimneys on Lord Nelsons, MN, Q1, WC/BoB). But also because, aware of this, I’ve gone and done it too big…

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

What’s going on here? Philipy has kindly moved this thread from ‘rolling stock’, enabling me to also drone on about locos and any other vaguely relevant nonsense. Thank you. AF17ACA2-3452-41A9-BCE0-6967DF7F60EE.jpeg It’s a bit crude but I like the chunkiness Before coaches can be pulled (or pushed)...

Re: Figures or not?

Werrp! Werrp! Werrp! Heresy Alert! Oooh… I set out to achieve, with varying levels of success, a sort of simplified, artificially ‘clean’ presentation with my not-really-to-scale, locos and rolling stock (track too, kind of) and I’d want any figures within to sit comfortably with that. I’d be lookin...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“Have I missed a post about your sound effects?” Thank you. I’m afraid the audio’s just added in the video edit. My notion of using a thumping, ‘Xtra Bass’ Bluetooth speaker kind of fizzled out with the motorblock issues (and expense). I still fancy having a go, though — perhaps after a visit to th...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“…the use of figures was a very hot topic” Thank you. I hadn’t realised it was already seen to be controversial. Interesting (to me) that he runs through some of the arguments — and arrives at precisely the opposite conclusion. The one he doesn’t mention (as I found — and as Philipy suggests) is th...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The proto-Thumper

Thank you both. I still haven’t been able to go and see one again — to delight in their glorious sound, along with the romantic seat moquettes, evocative luggage racks, maps, light-fittings, inspirational ‘The Dorset Coast - Go by Train’ posters, stained wood and general 1950s ambience… The Mid-Hant...

https://youtu.be/PD_cAeoBsVc I pondered putting a link here to the ‘Videos’ posting that includes the embedded, challenging new ‘Modernisation Plan’ YouTube video — but it might just as well be accessed directly here too… I’d hoped to also include locomotive-hauled options but that will have to be ...

Semi-scale BR: The proto-Thumper

https://youtu.be/PD_cAeoBsVc Short and noisy video features finished proto-Thumper power car and coaches trundling round, at last. It’s taught me a bit about keeping the track in decent order… Part 2 will follow ‘in due course’. (I’ll post this in the appropriate ‘Rolling Stock’ thread too. Hope th...

“I see you are planning a sleeper carriage too!” Thank you. I’ve been toying with it! I had thought though that a few standing figures could represent enthusiasts at open windows (not leaning out, of course) but they’re too naff, quite honestly. The (sitting) Preiser clones are much better quality.

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

Painted a fair number of the cheapo 1:25 commuters, at last, who now populate the coaches (but sparsely). It’s a branch line (sometimes) so there doesn’t need to be more than a couple in each compartment, which seems to be about right visually. You can’t really see too much through the windows anywa...
