Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
I’m not familiar with accucraft lubricators unfortunately, is it a dead leg type or steam fed? Maybe there’s a way to sleeve the existing pipe and drill a new smaller hole? Also not a true model engineer, just figuring it out as I go along, much bodging has been done!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
The project design uses a separate steam feed from the regulator to the lubricator, and then from the lubricator to the steam chest. I just reduced the size on the hole in the inlet union hoping it would reduce the amount of oil that gets through. I’ve never seen an accucraft lubricator, but I’d ass...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
https://youtu.be/8XTOsf07pcc First run with the bodywork fitted, and the smokebox properly sealed up, seem to steam considerably better now. I’ve also restricted the lubricator slightly as I think it was over oiling. Ran for about 25-30 mins never going below 55psi before I stopped it to check the ...

Re: Ellie The Steam Tram
That’s a clever solution, I like it! Do clevedon sell the reverser assembly on its own then? My thoughts were along similar lines but I was going to use a separate reverser block to make things easier as I don’t have access to a mill. This is a much neater way of doing it though!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Painting's a funny thing, innit? One day it goes well, the next might be a disaster. That's come out beautifully, you ought to be proud. :salute: It really is, some bits came out spot on straight from the can, others needed much flatting and polishing to get to an acceptable point, despite the same...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Painting turned out to be a bit of a pig, but it’s finally done, not perfect but it’ll do…
I’m sure I’ll find bits and pieces to do, but for now she’s done and ready to hit the track

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Longer video of the second steaming after fixing a few niggles. Had a bit of trouble getting the wicks to light so thinking they may be packed a bit too tight.

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Yeah matts already offered to loan some of his stock for a test, will need some of my own stuff at some point but I’ve run out of space at home so will need to figure that bit out first!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
I’ve currently got no g1 stock so will have to borrow something to pull, feels like it’s got some go though, doesn’t even flinch if you try to press against the wheels while it’s running.

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
I always make videos too short, feels like ive been filming for ages and when I watch it back is only 10 seconds or so. I’ll get a longer one next run! Wasn’t expecting it to work fours time to be honest so pretty ‘chuffed’!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
First steaming has been a success! Few minor issues to sort but nothing major. Ran nicely in both directions, even made steam while the axle pump was running.

3D printers do sound handy, unfortunately I’m going to have to do things the old fashioned way though! Looking forward to seeing how this progresses as it may well provide some inspiration for my own project!

Re: Ellie The Steam Tram
I was planning to build the engine as drawn, then go back and try to build a twin cylinder double acting one to drop in, got a vague idea of how to go about doing it in my head… out of interest how long did you laser cut bits take to turn up?

Re: Ellie The Steam Tram
I’m intrigued by this as I’m currently waiting for some laser cut Ellie bits in anticipation of the next project, was also toying with the idea of modifying the power plant as I’d like it to be self starting and reversible!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Just need to sort out wick and fuel then she’s ready for a test steaming. Hopefully have the bodywork ready to go back on by the time that’s happened.

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’
Slowly been chipping away at the bodywork and am pretty much there now, vac pipe, smokebox door handrail and one more boiler band then it’s good to go. Having issues soldering the handrail knobs to the door as it’s a hefty chunk of brass and the knobs are tiny, so any suggestions are welcome, thinki...

Looks like a good day down there! I’m curious about the q1 that makes an appearance in the background a few times, do you know anything about it?

Re: Fly cranks for IP Jessie
I built the chassis kit and was also quite disappointed with the fly cranks and ended up replacing them with a delrin chain drive. From memory I think the axle is 1/8”. Edsel engineering make some steel fly cranks but unfortunately I think they’re 3/16”.
