Yup, a standard 603c will work straight out the box using pin 1 onto the white signal wire of the soundcard. I see you've already been advised - yes, it needs to follow Ch1.
Reprogramming should be easy enough if you have a tx20. Possible with a tx22, but trickier.

Yes, I agree with Philip. These days it's hard to get good quality weatherproof ply - basically, you get what you pay for!
