Re: Some advice on a first Garden railway needed.

Mamods are fun but can be frustrating. Most people who get the best out of them seem to spend some money upgrading them.

If you spend enough money you can probably turn a Ford Focus into a Mustang but you may have been better buying a Mustang in the first place.

You have the knack of capturing the spirit of the real thing and converting it to your own scale/gauge combo. Once again... superb!

Re: SM32 set-track

I don't know if Peco are ever going to get themselves reset after the pandemic.
I ordered a Peco SM32 point from Rails of Sheffield in May 2021.
Apparently it's still on back order!

It's worth building for the spark arrestor chimney for a start. It looks like a genie might pop out if conditions were favourable.

"I believe that Hydrogen powered vehicles are being proposed for heavier load hauling."

Yes, that seems like a more sensible option for heavy duty use maybe. I heard that JCB are leading the field in this.

Re: Two into one will go.

Very informative Philip. That is just the sort of practical info needed by those unfamiliar with electric cars, who maybe are considering going electric. You would think that with the pressure to get every one converted to electric vehicles there would have been more effort put into the infrastructu...

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports

This line is full of character. You've obviously done your homework with the catenary. Do you have to keep the rails clean to complete the circuit? If so wondering how you keep rails clean in tunnels -and keep the wildlife out..

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports

The overgrown tracks give it the right ambience for a line, preservation or otherwise, that is struggling along with minimum staff on a budget.
So atmospheric. I've liked this one since I first saw a video of it.

Re: Edging a raised line.

The reed screening can be bamboo or willow / hazel /chestnut (I use willow in a different application - to put a privacy screen atop a brick wall). Its all ok but for facing a raised trackbed I'd go for log roll which is usually tanalised so will last for ages, creosote or not. It is sturdier, tidie...

Re: Ordering Peco products post Covid

I ordered two sets of points, one 4mm and one SM32; both on back order it seems. I tried to contact them using contact details on website. The email address didn't look like a proper email address. On the second phone attempt I was asked to leave a message. We'll see if they get back to me.

Ordering Peco products post Covid

Do any members have insider knowledge of the state of play at Peco? I ordered some track items in May from a well known mail order model shop. I've been told that they are still on back order. I understand that Peco were busy for a while making PPE items in connection with covid. I've not had any up...
