Re: eBay madness

I would have it but no space for a Slomo unfortunately. Yes, I did think that... Although Chris B's film shows one running very nicely without: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_YYMzI0r98 I need to get back on eBay, but selling rather than buying! My loco fund is a long way from the stage where I c...

That's lovely! It's still got a heritage charm but without looking out of place alongside modern locos, fantastic job.

All the best,

Andrew.

Re: eBay madness

Price drop, £1600 now... Hmmm... I'm almost tempted... I'm saving for a Lilla, and this is a decent price, BUT I'd need to do a full repaint to fit in with my line. And, although the current colour scheme's not to my taste, it would be a shame to slop an amateur paint job over the top of a professi...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

I do love this time of year, when you can just pop out for an hour or so in the evening and move a project on a little - which is what I did last night. Because we no longer have a shed, the corner of the garden I'm currently working on will always have to be used to store a certain amount of stuff,...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

I've made a little more progress with "Project Penlan" in the last few days, but I'm afraid the photos were rubbish, might be able to post some of work in progress later. The point to the new siding has now been inserted, and I've added the wooden strip that will form the edge of Penlan's ...

I would be too - very nice, just the sort of photos that got me into the whole world of garden railways...

Those photos are wonderful! With your railway looking that good it's hardly surprising you've been inundated with visitors...

Re: Lineside fencing for the Elderbury & District

That's brilliant! A little maintenance of my lineside fencing is on the (lengthy!) summer "to do" list. On mine the wire currently goes through the post, but you're quite right that this is much more realistic. If the posts can take another set of holes being drilled I'll give your way a g...

Winter is setting in hereabouts, so the opportunity for running trains will become rarer for a few months.
I hope we still get to see the odd train when the weather allows, it's been wonderful to see your locos and stock in action - the "roadside goods" was fantastic!

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

That siding gives operational interest as well as it can collect wood from the sawmill? That was my thought too - here's an image from the very first page of this thread! http://wklr.webs.com/photos/undefined/Shunting%20the%20wood%20store%20smaller%20version.jpg The old WHR did have a bit of timber...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Good morning! I managed to spend an hour in the garden last night so started work on making space for a new siding at Penlan. It will go behind the station and in front of the wood store, which needed pruning back to ensure adequate clearance. Here's the cluttered corner of the garden before work st...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Hello! Progress on the (WH)WHR tends to be somewhat sporadic, but today I bit the bullet and started work on the Penlan station relaying and ballasting. The first task was to extricate the track from the mind-your-own-business that had completely covered it, and to remove the crumbling remains of th...

Yep, glue and paint have both worked fine - I used Revell "Contacta Liquid" and Poundland primer and paint... Both wagons now have running and coupling gear attached, so I took them into the garden for a quick picture but was joined by this very friendly photo-bomber: Painted trucks with c...

There's a lot of Lego out there, isn't there?! Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

You didn't take much arm-twisting Rik! I've had some success here with my cunning plan to recreate the distinctive axleboxes the NWNGR used on some of their smaller wagons... While chatting with my son, it occurred to me that Lego pieces would do a decent job of making the basic shape I needed - I w...

Wishing now I'd made some four-wheeled coaches for the PLR..... :? Some of these would look nice Rik, original R&E 3' 4-wheelers - and they're straight-sided with square windows and beading, no pesky curves to cut... Just a little project for when you've finished those sand hoppers... https://p...

Glad you like the carriages Rod! I think those are about 10 years old now. Little-by-little I've been making progress on my current rolling stock project, the two NWNGR/WHR goods vehicles. Both are now at the same stage, with the bodies assembled and the planking in place: Van and open.jpg With luck...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

Great video, I must try that sometime... Very convincing too, with the exception of Wilma's cameo, which made me laugh out loud... I hadn't worked out the layout of line until I watched the video - it seems like a good way to combine realistic running with a good long run, without taking up too much...
