This one should still be available from the Atlantic website. What WILL be available shortly is a reprint of Live Steam Workshop. I found Live steam workshop the most helpfull book when I first started tinkering, good to see it coming back, I'm sure it will sell well again. There have been many enq...

Re: Steaming in your garden: Tag Gorton

I've been looking at various books about garden steam engines, and have decided I would like to read "Steaming in your garden" by Tag Gorton. Mostly the book appeals to me because it has the unusual sight of a Roundhouse Billy with a tender on the cover. On "Amazon.UK" there are...

may I ask why the Sabre locos all required new boilers?  I highly doubt the boilers were themselves dangerous (I can say this with confidence as I own three boilers by the same boiler maker), were they just badly designed? Incidentally you have actually seen one of these boilers Tag, the funny coal...

UPDATE:I sent the seller an email before i started this  thread ,where i asked him if he could come with one of his locos to the Exeter exhibition and i would buy it if he demonstrated it for me. He replied politely telling me that his locos are based on Roundhouse skeletons but he tends to avoid s...

Yes, John Shaw Jack, small quarry hunslet but im unsure of the manufacturer, as it isnt mine. 5" gauge sweetpea by model works 5" gauge polly And a good few of the Talyllyn Loco's... Perhaps it was an earlier loco. I'd have to find out. But the supplier is in its third owner now. Surly we...

Ask for proof that they're Riverdale? Afterall, they could be Sabre ones.... Doug, Id take that back. Nothing wrong with a Sabre steam boiler other than a little fettle, emery cloth to smokebox to get a better seal. As I understand, its a roundhouse set of castings, that are usually soldered togeth...

Benchmark, I would like to recommend something to you. You like to tinker with steam engines and fix them up, as well as playing with them. Those engines you were looking at on EBay are nothing more than Roundhouse chassis and Riverdale boilers. The only difference is that the seller has put togeth...

Coal is nice and cheap however Tony :-)

A 'prototype' locomotive will *always* have limited appeal almost by definition. I'd certainly agree with you with regards to the "iconic" loco's Tag, (hence the reasoning behind my alternative "W&L" ;) ), but with other prototypes, it is possible to integrate them into a fr...

As I have said before, the freelancers will do better because people can customise them to their own railways/worlds without any issues such as 'authenticity' or 'does it look right for that type'. :) Taliesin doesn't surprise me, the Atlantic is a shame and I am sorry to see Tom Rolt going. :c I w...

Bit tongue in cheek really, and no disrespect to Tag for a superb mag., but my name for it was "Tag's Rag". Now what'll I call it? Indeed :-) The name does not easily fit does it. I have heard 'Tags rag' several times – also GortonRail... Not my baby any more however – although I am obviou...

Re: Ideas on Silver Lady mods

Hi all. I've had my Lady since 2007, and it's a beautiful thing (as are all Lady Annes these days), but now that my Katie has been completely rebuilt, it looks odd compared to them... Any ideas for mods anyone? :) The smokebox is very easy to remove and so how about getting some handrail knobs and ...

Oooh I love that Ragleth Tag, looks superb. BR livery really suits it & the extra bits certainly take away the rather mundane look they have as standard. Being coal fired is just the icing on the cake. As I said to you before, I am still planning having the ELR boys rebuild my fowler into coal ...

Accucraft certainly seem to be raising the standard with working drain docks etc, I guess they will be fitted to countess/earl when they return in 2015 as well plus any other future non freelance loco. I wonder if roundhouse are falling behind now..... Except people dont want the drain cocks on and...

I like the functioning cylinder cocks! I wonder though if there is room to put them on the cylinder at the four and eight o'clock position (left to right as viewed from ahead) rather than six o-clock, with short pipes directing the steam downward, then they would be a little more hidden. I am devel...
