Resin printed slate waggon

"Man cannot live by number plates alone" and having proved that the resin printer is capable of detailed small items I wanted to find out it's limits. The lattice cube test print gave me an idea and a bit of searching found me the Colin Binnie drawing of a ffestiniog slate waggon. In fact ...

Re: Ironing

Does the bottom layer also need to be increased in line with the top? In Cura it seems to recommend keeping them the same. Not sure to be honest. In my early printing days I was using the default settings which I think was 3 top and bottom with 15% infill. When I did an underframe with buffer beams...

Re: Ironing

That is looking very good Rik.
When I had problems with pillowing, and you seems to have a hint of it, I was advised to increase the top layer count up to as much as 10 layers and it certainly helped, - that also depends on the % infill, the lower the % the more top layers it needs.

Nice idea, but I imagine that the anti-slop baffles will impede the swimming somewhat, though?

Re: BR Style Block Instrument - 3D Printed

It reminds me of tales of chaps in the 50s or whenever gathering in attics to smoke pipes and run clockwork versions of the West Cast Main Line, with bell codes tinging away all over the place, Andrew, I assume that you've not come across the Gainsborough Model Railway Soc? A decent O gauge version...

Instantly recognisable.... um.. well... I recognise it instantly but umm...!!

Seriously, a totally believable creation. ell done. looking forward to seeing it painted.

In keeping with the theme, if you can't quite see a rake of Mk5 sleepers, why not try a rake of Mk 2.5 sleepers?

Re: Choosing and Using a Resin printer

On top of what Steve said, I would add that Ithink the resin m/c is more difficult to get to grips with - less intuitive in slicing, for example.

Choosing and Using a Resin printer

Following a couple of queries on another thread, I thought a few bits of info from a complete novice might be of assistance in the future. I must acknowledge -steves- patience and assistance in my decision to get one of these machines in the first place. There are a number of machines on the market ...

Trevor, Steve has beaten me to it, and is far more expert than me, but I'm going to start a new thread with what I've learned so far about the technicalities.

Re: Resin 3D printers - wagon plates

I know very little about this technology, but wouldn't be easier to print the number plates in white and then paint them black, rather than the other way around? It quite likely would Tony. I tried spraying them black and painting white, and Andrew tried spraying white then overpaintng the black, w...

I'd also suggest investing in a tube of Squadron White Putty (I get mine from Eileen's Emporium).

Re: Scratchbuilding a 'Rye & Camber' style coach

Tom, This is a slight deviation from the topic but I was browsing through a book of plans by the 7mm Association this morning and I noticed that they have a drawings of the R & C Golf Links station building. You might already know of it, but if it's of interest, let me know. Is that the one wit...
