Painting MDF

Have just build a pair of laser cut MDF coaches. A mate of mine who is a chippy mentioned using a sealer on them prior to painting.
What does everyone else think.
Any ideas?

Good luck with it! Post some pics of the work please. It will be nice to see an old loco like that back from the dead! As for the 350 quid Rheidol, yes I should have. however my luck is such that if I had gone for that rather than the Maestro eveyone would be talking about the price that Merlins are...

Funny you should have posted pictures of Idris. I aquired a load of old magazines recently and amoung them was the issues of SMT that include the articles that Dave Watkins wrote. As they were the only SMT issues in the large pile I assumed that some one was planning to build one. I was going to pos...

Silicone will be easier to remove if you change your mind but may not be as strong as epoxy.
IMHO try the silicone first and see how you get on.

Trixie looks a little bit battered, definatly one to steer clear of.
Was offered one last year as an okayish osmotor for 350 quid, I wish I had taken it.
There is currently one on ebay for £1200 buy it now, I don't think he will get it.

Nice work Dick, the layout is coming along a treat and Castell Dynefwr is a fine looking loco with a superb paint job.

Old Magazines & old books.

I took the family on the Teifi Valley Railway yesterday. The Son and Heir enjoyed himself immensely and I acquired a box full of Garden Rail Magazines, not a complete set but a lot of early ones, a few from the late 1990's and some from the early 2000's. It was quite surprising to see the suppliers ...

I have never really given any thought at all to the type of figures I have/will use on my locos and railway. The only stipulation I have is that they are cheap and toddler proof. I am not really one for scenery as IMHO the garden can provide most of that but my young son loves to have figures he can...

Fairbourne Railway Gala

Did anyone else manage to get to the Fairbourne 'Little & Large' Gala over the bank holiday? I was able to drag the current wife, mother and son & heir along by not being completely truthful about the length of time it takes to drive to Fairbourne from Carmarthen (2 1/2 Hrs). I was even able...

Merlin regulator.

I have got my Merlin in bits at the moment. The sight-glass was leaking slightly and a few other jobs needed doing. I have been looking at the regulator mechanism and wondering if there was a way to move the control rod to a slightly less conspicuous place (i.e. not going through the cab window.) I ...
