Re: Diesel Outline...
Lovely Dave, runs very smooth. I like the clicking noise as well. The mechanical lubricator on my 5" gauge loco is of the clutch type which although works well I am concerned longer term it will fail and I will end up with seized cylinders! Thanks Tom, it's a lovely project. LBSC would call it watc...

Re: Diesel Outline...
Can you please give us some more details? for example - how big is the body of this lubricator? Did you build it exactly as per Mason's book or have you used the book as an inspiration and adapted the design for your needs? Thank you The tank is 9/16" x 5/8". I built it exactly to the plans. But th...

Re: Diesel Outline...
A month ago I decided to have another go at fixing the diesel. The lubricator was still unsatisfactory as was the boiler sight glass. So I took the L.C. Mason book - Scale Model Traction Engine Building "featuring minnie" off the shelf and started to build the mechanical lubricator. It is a delightf...

There were only 10 made. They were used up until 1975invicta280 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 10:57 pmI never saw one of these during my younger years in NZ. How long did they last?

NZR Df (1954) locomotive
My next project is New Zealand's first mainline diesel-electric locomotive, the NZR English Electric Df of 1954 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/DF1501.jpg I'm currently having a go at making a prototype nose hung axle motor arrangement. There's lots of wheels on this 2Co-Co2 loco...

Re: What are the best options for fuel for G Scale gauge 1 locomotives
I'm a fan of methylated spirits / alcohol firing. But, butane gas firing is so convenient. The only downside is that a loco mounted gas tank needs to be tested to very high pressures 300PSI - 20bar. However, gas tanks mounted remotely from the loco can suffer from a lock of pressure. Butane gas seem...

Re: Need some direction on a first project
Jim, I started with Dave Watkins' "Idris". I certainly recommend it. I widened the design from 32mm gauge to 45mm gauge without scaling everything else up. The Idris design is available on this page: https://www.16mm.org.uk/resources/drawings/locomotives/ Here's the loco on the rolling road https://...
