Re: new pavers for garden
Where did you get them from please. I have seen some very similar, but they are really expensive.. Rod, It is done by a local contractor; they use the stones from Tremron. You can choose in their stock the stones that fit your garden; they have many types, such as "antiqued", "mega o...

new pavers for garden
After many years, I realized that more space is needed to enjoy the garden railway, so I decided to get rid of the hedge against the wall and designing new pavers. It took the contractor only 2 days to execute the plan and they just finish by now. My family really enjoyed such a spacious environment...

Re: small project during Thanksgiving break
It's hard to tell sorry. Can you take another photo of it side on with the big chimney to the left, so we can see how it is to the building. I will take more pictures during the weekend since it is already outside the garden railway, and it is very dark nowadays after I return home from work. Thanks

small project during Thanksgiving break
This is my artwork during Thanksgiving holidays. I bought this metal building from Michaels. Initial assessment suggested the metal is in good quality fits outdoor. But then, I realized that it looks plain as the way it is so I used wood sticks to create the wood walls. For the roof, I use real mate...

Re: A modest foliage on Haruka garden railway
That Japanese maple is really attractive. Must think about something to give a bit of autumn colour in my garden. Thanks for the idea. Rik Japanese maple trees are very much adaptable in most condition. They like to be in the shade, a bit moisturized soil. Particularly, the air from ocean makes the...

Re: Early retirement
It's been a big secret, but I'm planning on taking early retirement in June next year. I'll have more time for all the important stuff 👍 Congratulations, so you can enjoy working on the garden everyday. I still have 15-20 years to go; can't wait see how excitement that would be. For sure this hobby...

Here are some photos I took this morning. The weather is a bit warm this year so not much foliage in the garden railway, except the Japanese maple tree.

Re: Lionel standard gauge
The 1909 standards for model railways in Europe were: Ga. 0 - 1.25" Ga. 1 - 1.75" Ga. 2 - 2" Ga. 3 - 2.5" When Marklin had introduced 2.5" gauge in 1891 they had called it 2 Gauge (Spur II), but the British later adopted 2" which became Ga. 2 when the terminology was s...

Re: sound cards
Does the link that I have shown www.modelsounds.co.uk not work for you? It works, thanks; it was my oversight for not trying it in the first time. After searching many days, I found the website http://ittproducts.com/GL.html this sound chip is very compact and it takes somewhere from 9-14 volts, ve...

Re: sound cards
Was it "Master Blaster" by any chance? They do a good range of station and countryside sounds, I have one from there that creates a superb sound of a stationary steam engine which I use in my steam pump house. www.modelsounds.co.uk I think it is not Master Blaster, but it is fine as if I ...

Japanese model train
This is the version of Japanese model train in Kyoto train museum. This museum is new, it's the first time I visit it. In general, it is very similar to the one in Tokyo.

Re: Plexyglass buildings
I use acrylic and enamel paint. With acrylic I mix my own thinners using IPA, water and add flow retarder and flow improver. I get the best results by making a very thin mix and slowly building up lots of coats. I don't particularly like airbrushing with acrylic, but for some things it's the best o...

Re: Plexyglass buildings
Sometimes a simple paint job can be so frustrating. Especially airbrush work. I've often spent longer setting up and cleaning than painting. Acrylics really try my patience sometimes with clogging. Ian I agree, that is why I didn't want to use airbrush to begin with; I tried to find a simple and qu...

Re: Plexyglass buildings
That's really impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. I still can't imagine the finished building, but I do admire your use of (to me) a new material and techniques. Ian Thanks, I have a general idea how to do it, but not everything; so step-by-step idea will evolve during the pr...
