You can use fine wet n dry for the rail heads 1000 or 1200 grit. Clean the ends of the rails with a fibre glass pencil or fine wire wool before fitting the fish plates. This should give a good connection, for how long I would not want to say, brass starts to tarnish in a matter of hours, nickel stee...

Hi WVLR, My lathe is a Myford Drummond 3 1/2" M type. There is no makers plate on it so I can't be sure, but I believe it to be a 1920-43 ish build. If your chuck has the earlier 1" x 12 tpi thread it should fit. I think the only other alternative for the ML1 was a 9 tpi but still on a 1&q...

I hope too. I really need a 4" 4 jaw independent chuck. I'm having trouble finding a 1" x 12tpi backplate, without resorting to a gold plated Myford one. The lathe appears to be pretty accurate, but it's age is making some tools and attachments a little difficult to track down. But hey, I'...

Nice work Tom. Will it be left unpainted/treated? Might be nice left to pick up a grubby used look with time and running.

That's a cracking picture. I think if done well it can add to a shot, but like most arty things it needs a measured hand.
There is an article in this Novembers 16mm Today on photographing 16mm lines for those that havn't already found it.

Model Engineering Exhibition-Sandown Park / Disabled access

I'm thinking about attending this show for the 1st time. I would like to take my Grandfather with me, as he has a general interest in all things mechanical. My only concern is that he uses a mobility scooter due to a severe stroke. If anybody here has attended this show in recent years I would like ...

I don't have a line of my own and hence no builders either, but from visiting other people's lines, it seems that not all buildings are left out all of the time. The more vulnerable ones are brought indoors, space permitting. I should think for wooden buildings a varnish or one of the fence treatmen...

I purchased an MSS tank from Dream steam and the service was excellent. I have since ordered upgrade parts from them and will be using them in the future. I think, like superbiker_uk, one bad product has caused some problems which don't reflect well on the rest of the companys products and service. ...

Both models are great, I wish I had the time to produce either, but hey!
I like the the idea of scratch building wagons, but not having the time to procure all the bits and pieces necessary, makes kits a great alternative for me.
Well done guys.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I already have an MSS tank that is slowly evolving into a great little engine. It does need a companion though :) . I have looked at some of the various options and I just keep coming back to the Roundhouse Katie. It looks great, will handle tight curves, the ones ...

Thanks Al.
I like the look of the DJB Robert loco, but I wonder if coal firing is a little ambitious for a relative newcomer to 16mm steam. I would be interested to know if the Robert body could be used with a gas fired boiler and RH chassis.

Live Steam loco kits

Could somebody please point me in the direction of 16mm live steam loco kits? I have looked at the Roundhouse Kits but would like to have a look at what others might be offering. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but there seems to be little on offer. Ideally I would be looking at a complete kit...
