Tell me you've hooked up a small battery and given it a test run? I wouldn't be able to resist :)

Hi Tom, I've just picked up a small piercing saw from Hobbycraft after having a similar problem cutting small sections of brass sheet. It was £11 for the saw handle and £5.50 for a pack of about 30 blades. Having had a bit of a practice it is a much slower way of cutting, but it offers a lot more co...

After making my bench peg last night I tried out my new saw. Fair enough it only cost a tenner, but it already makes me feel a little more confident cutting small brass pieces.
I now need to make up a few simple jigs and clamps for folding small parts up.
Thanks for the advice guys.

All this talk of pubs is making me a bit thirsty though. Time for a pint of the old homebrew.:)

I will have to make a bench peg this afternoon, havn't used one of those since leaving school! Once a few parts have been cut I'll report back. That metal former/folder l...

Thinking about buying a scroll saw...

I'm going to start making some detailing parts for my MSS loco out of brass sheet. Can anybody recommend a scroll saw or possibly a more suitable electric sawing machine for cutting thin metal and wood. Having looked on the Machine Mart site and found some Clarke saws that fit in with my budget, (al...

Thanks guys, I popped into the local newsagents and they had some on the shelf. It was a lot cheaper than the online stuff as well, which is nice.
Now it's time to practice soldering some brass with it!

Where to buy Butane?

Sorry to ask this but I'm really struggling to find a stockist.
I need it to fill a soldering iron and a lighter.
The only ones I can find are mail order, ideally I need it sooner.

Thanks Steven, I will be going to a local steam up soon, I have one coach almost finished. I will take it along and see how it performs around various radii. I may have to make some adjustments, by the looks of things I have put the axles too far apart. I should have asked this earlier, but my eager...

My little MMS tank was built from a kit and has since been fitted with a water top up, high pressure safety valve and a meths burner. Other than that it is bone stock. I did have some discussion with Chris Cairns during the build as it's my 1st live steam loco. He gave me a lot of good advice. I pai...

I know this topic is a little old, but what is an acceptable maximum wheelbase for the three comp 4 wheelers? The instructions say to mark out a wheelbase to suit the curvature of your line. Well I don't have a line.  I am a complete novice, so please someone, give me a clue? I want them to look rig...

A very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks Tom. I was very pleased at how my little loco performed. It will be interesting to see how it copes with my IP coaches when I get round to finishing them. Gremlin's new loco was a real gem, although with all that wear and tear it's probably only worth about 50 quid...

We've had a fantastic week here, the class 35 was a last minute stand in for western Campaigner. We heard some chap had travelled for 9 hrs to see Western Campaigner only to be confronted with a Hymek. I hope he wasn't too upset. I know I wasn't. :D The L&BR (Woody Bay Station) was another compl...

Somerset Steam and Diesel

I'd like to share a few photos taken over the last week while on holiday. These are my favourite ones from the WSR and L&BR. I have lots of detail shots taken at the L&BR for future reference when I start my garden line. Hope you like them. Krusty http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/jmx95...
