Re: eBay madness
Thanks Chris, Yes that is indeed quality, obviously made by another small operation that was largely ignored because it wasn't by a 'mainstream' manufacturer until they were no longer available.

Re: eBay madness
If they were at that price for a buy it now maybe I would disagree with you, but as it is the starting price I think that's a bit steep. I wouldn't mind those bits at £500 as it would get you well on the way to building Talyllyn.

Re: eBay madness
I've come to realise with 16mm on ebay that unless you're virtually giving it away for a bit of fun and to do a total stranger a financial favour you're wasting your time, other scales like 009 and 7mm command and get reasonable prices. Then at the other end of the scale is that Archangel wagon whic...

Re: eBay madness
I've found that a lot of people prefer to pay more if it's on Ebay and somehow have a reticence to go direct to the websites that sell it. Nuts I know and doubly irritating as I find myself packing and sending off products that could have been just bought direct from my website so I now add the ebay...

Re: eBay madness
I still think he needs to add another tenner to his prices, people need to pay for quality, I've seen those GVT wagons painted up nicely they're worth £20 of anybodies money. I never understand the penny pinching attitude to buying rolling stock, 16mm scale but 'OO' prices.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
It doesn't matter if there are any wonky bits as long as you do a nice job of the painting! If you feel the need to reach for the toilet brush and emulsion paint like most 16mm modellers just stop and do it another day. Just look on Ebay and you'll see what I mean. I always use two coats of sanding ...

Spot on! it's an etch primer that actually works on brass.

Re: Etch primer and painting advice
I don't think a lot of modellers understand the difference between paint just 'sitting' on brass and paint actually adhering to it and not knocking off on edges and corners with minimal use.

Re: Etch primer and painting advice
There is only one and believe me I've tried them all, It's called Hammerite special metal primer it's water based [ although you'd never guess ] and I actually sprayed it but thinned it only very slightly, it dries very quickly and is very good. When I sprayed the boiler of my Archangel Princess I w...

Wick Material
Hi, I seem to be having problems with wick material, I'm not convinced this modern glass strand stuff is any good for any more than one or two runs, I've tested two of my locos and they were both shy for steam, one an internally fired and the other external. The flame is there but not producing enou...

Roundhouse will probably do another run of this loco, when the 'Measured and Drawn' book comes out, they'd be silly not to.

Re: Warning the Saleroom Phishing Scam
We had a similar thing at work a few years back and my boss at the time who could talk a good yarn strung her along saying no we have good protection etc etc and after half an hour she got angry and said " you're wasting my time " my boss said " No you're wasting mine!"

Re: Warning the Saleroom Phishing Scam
Yes I agree, I was talking to my Bank who stopped some payments to a UK based online women's clothing company, which if you think about it could be followed up and find the actual orders. But they won't as its too wide spread and they have millions of cases like this to deal with.

Warning the Saleroom Phishing Scam
I've used the Saleroom website for a few years now but last week I've been hit by a phishing scam popup. So let me explain, I was on the Saleroom website logged in and wished to bid on an item on another associated Auctioneers and I received a popup message that to bid I needed to pay a small fee vi...

Re: eBay madness
No way is it worth anything like £3000, Simon Whenmouth has one for sale at that price but it's been converted to coal firing, If you contact him he would probably be able to keep an eye out for you for a gas fired one. I think the other best place to get one is go to the shows, I saw one just over ...
