Re: The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

Interested to see you're intending to build a Hunslet steam outline battery loco from a GRS kit. These kits go together well and I'm sure will be a welcome addition to your roster. Are you using their chassis or constructing your own? Rik I purchased the body and chassis kit at the same time at a s...

Re: The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

- is there any chance of a gratuitous plug/link to this forum? I've created a 'Useful links' page and put three links on it but I can't get the website builder to make them click and go. This means, for the meantime, users will have to copy the link from the new page and paste it in their browser. ...

Re: Dash cams

We've got one front and rear which came as an add on when we bought the car and was fitted by the dealer. It stays switched on 24/7 but when parked it activates if something/someone comes close or if there is a vibration suggesting an impact or similar. Not had to use is yet but whilst in standby mo...

Re: The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

Please would you tell me what sort of an area does your railway occupies, Andy? Hi Peter, I've done some quick measurements for you. Also, while the plan is not to scale it is in proportion and the shed is 10ft by 8ft. Hope you can see them at your end. I started building the trackbed from Crowfoot...

The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

I do a little bit of Facebook for hobby related information but, as I don't have the inclination to learn to use it to its advantage, I tend to find things more by luck than judgment. A hobby related website allows the author/builder to present information in their own way rather than how the very c...

Re: I'm looking for an effective paint spray booth for models.

This looks very good and convenient to use. My fear with self build is whether any fan and motor I use are spark free or likely to be safe with a mist of potentially combustable paint spray being sucked through it. It certainly looks as though the exhaust fan is very much more effective than my pres...

Re: I'm looking for an effective paint spray booth for models.

Thanks Big Jim and Rik,
I've picked up on what you've said.
I do use a good quality face mask and I have a large desk fan that I can utilize so I think I will try again.

Thanks again for replying.

Re: I'm looking for an effective paint spray booth for models.

Thanks for the reply Rik. I have changed the filter for a new one but even with no filter on the amount of suction is very limited. It is alway possible that I'm expecting too much from a hobby machine. The advice that if you can smell it then it is getting into your lungs spooks me a bit especially...

I'm looking for an effective paint spray booth for models

Sometime ago I purchased a portable fold up paint spray booth from a tool retailer at a model railway show. It works in so much as the fan sucks air through the filter. The unit is connected through the wall of my shed via a 100mm vent tube. The problem is that the suction is nowhere near enough to ...

Those chippings look a very good scale size, are they commercially available or do you have enormous patience with a lump hammer and sieve? Andrew Some time ago I bought a couple of large bags from a garden railway supplier that is no longer in business. I have seen similar on retailers web...

Thank you also Andy for your advice, I see that as ever with garden railways that your method is slightly different to Peter's! I may well try both. I agree wholeheartedly with Peter about waiting for a dry period to do this but once it is properly dry it will hold on like the proverbial to a shove...

I've not used SBR for track ballasting yet mainly because I keep putting off the job.  I'm hoping to make a goods start this year.  I'm confident that when I do, using SBR and granite chippings on top of mortared bricks, it will be a success. See below is a shot of a piece of sm32 track screwed to a...

Some of these look very similar to the figures that Back2Bay6 had made in 16mm scale - for example the Man Seating Reading Book & Shopping Keeper in Apron. Chris Cairns Yes I agree.  I have a number of the examples from Back2Bay6 which were 1:19 or 16mm/ft ish.  I remember seeing similar figure...

Can't find one on their website but i am impressed with what they have available. Could be a bit pricey at the moment with postage and the exchange rate.

Thanks for the info. :D

I've checked with Model Earth and the chain hoist on their website is 1:12 so would be far too large and they are out of stock anyway.
I will have to put something together using some bits and bobs. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Model Earth does a Chain Hoist, but it is neither 16mm scale nor G scale. Hi Chris, yet again you have come to the rescue. That is the one. I think it may be 7/8 scale but I have e-mailed them for dimensions of the model. I've just built a resin goods shed and wanted a contraption to hang from a hi...
