Re: Dunitrong Locomotive Works

Good points there Graeme. The wheel profile is mostly to the 16mm association spec, so 1.5mm flanges: https://www.16mm.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/32mm.jpg They are only 20mm diameter on the treads, so that might be causing the flanges to look a bit big compared to more standard sized wheels. ...

Re: Cura 5 - Variable line width.

The latest pre-release version of PrusaSlicer has also just integrated the exact same algorithm, ported from Cura. I was hoping to take a look at it this weekend, as you say it could be quite useful for models.

Re: Dunitrong Locomotive Works

I'm posting my dad's latest project on his behalf, I suppose its a sort of one-off kit for him made by me. We've had these Andel balcony coaches for years, my dad really likes them, and has been wanting a railcar for some time. https://i.imgur.com/Sdm4CSe.jpg I've had one of those Chinese K40 CO2 la...

Re: Which FDM printer?

Unfortunate that you're having issues. The ssh doesn't get me anywhere apart from the terminal window asking for a password with a blinking cursor that won't actually allow me to actually type anything at all, correct or incorrect. I think its normal for the password field to not show anything while...

Re: Latest developments

Those are some really nice models, I especially like the springs. Have you tried turning on Monotonic Ordering? It might help with the diagonal lines you see where the top infill is broken by an island sticking out of it. It just reorders the lines so they are always progressing in one direction acr...

Re: Which FDM printer?

The terminal it's talking about is the command line of the Pi itself. There are a few ways to get to it. You could temporarily plug in a keyboard and monitor and run the Pimoroni script, I would guess that once its installed you don't need to keep the keyboard and monitor plugged in. This method sho...

Re: Firmware upgrade issues

If the Arduino IDE is playing up, you can just open configuration.h in any text editor, its in the same folder as the Marlin.ino file you open with the Arduino IDE.

Re: Firmware upgrade issues

Things like homing speed are baked into the firmware when you compile it, its not adjustable with a gcode. For homing feedrate, you can find it in configuration.h: // Homing speeds (linear=mm/min, rotational=°/min) #define HOMING_FEEDRATE_MM_M { (100*60), (100*60), (4*60) } You will have to recompil...

Re: Firmware upgrade issues

I did notice the acceleration difference, the M204 P400 should set the acceleration during print moves to 400 like the old configuration, but M204 T1000 sets the acceleration during to travel at 1000, whereas the old travel accel was 400. Try issuing M204 T400 to set the travel to 400mm/s2. You coul...

Re: Firmware upgrade issues

Brilliant thinking putting it on a new mainboard and saving the old one, that has probably saved a lot of time trying to make sure the firmware defaults are set properly. The relevant values are looking pretty similar, so that's a big part of the problem space we can probably shortcut. One thing I c...

Re: Firmware upgrade issues

I can think of a lot of scenarios could be causing things to go wrong here. Are you sure all the settings e.g. steps per mm in configuration.h were edited to be correct for the particular machine? The update probably decided to nuke your old firmware EEPROM settings stored on the mainboard since the...

Re: Printer bed materials

I use these relatively cheap bed stickers off Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CVT79TG/ Work well for me in PLA and PETG. Don't use ABS/ASA so not sure how good they are for that. Don't need to use any treatment, just print straight onto the heated sticker, after wiping any dust off if...

Re: Curved corrugated roof

I think I'd try printing it with a thin side on the bed, possibly with brim to help adhesion. No supports needed as long as your adhesion is up to the task. If its a moving bed printer, orient the long edge in the Y direction so the inertia during movement doesn't try and lever it off the bed. I wou...

Re: Yet another Ellie

That's a lovely model, shame about that Chinese reversing valve. I wonder if it'd be better off with a lower gear ratio so the engine runs slower and presumably uses less steam. With it being a more powerful twin cylinder double acting unit it shouldn't need as aggressive gearing down as the origina...

Re: Which FDM printer?

Is that something you've found to be an issue? Obviously there is a big price difference from about £13 for the zero to £50 for the 3, and as is common, the guy is an Amazon Affiliate so, being my usual cynical self, he would presumably get more commission from the more expensive unit ( as if he wo...

Re: Which FDM printer?

I would second the Prusa suggestion, you should get a really good ready-to-go printer from them, but for a price compared to the Chinese stuff.

PrusaSlicer is also my favourite slicer, and should include nicely tuned profiles for their own printers.

Re: SM32 set-track

So, what are the equivalent 32mm (narrow gauge) pearls of wisdom, and rabid generalisations then? Only one really... The shorter the wheelbase the tighter the curve it will negotiate. Of course the tighter the curve the more gauge widening becomes necessary, as well. :dontknow: As philipy says - it...

Re: SM32 set-track

As far as I know there isn't really that much choice in what PECO do, its just 2 different radii curves, 2 different radii points and a Y-point, that's your lot. Their entire SM-32 range is just 11 items, the list is on their website: https://peco-uk.com/collections/peco/sm-32-32mm Cliff Barker does...

Glad you managed to sort it. I want to get into resin printing this year - built a new shed last year so I can get one without stinking up the house with resin and alcohol. I enjoyed toying with my filament printer over the past few years, now its probably tuned within an inch of its life, pretty re...

Re: Printing thin resin sheets

Well, that at least rules out problems with the slicer or model, it seems the machine can't reproduce what is being asked of it. I don't have any experience with resin printers, so I can't be of much use on that front. I know some printers peel each layer off the resin vat film, I wonder if some of ...
