We need more like this...
When I first got involved with a narrow gauge modelling group, my friends introduced me to wonderful new experiences and locations I had never heard of before. One of these was the Cadeby Light Railway, Leicestershire, UK. This was a private collection of traction engines, steam rollers, steam and d...

For me it was the visitor information panel which confirmed my choice. I thought it unlikely such an item would appear on a period model.

Re: Quarry Hunslet
I'm glad you found that useful Philip, I found it so easy to use and thought others might benefit from the idea too. It might be possible to have individual units, thereby removing the need for accurate distance spacing, as long as they are set on flat surfaces and at perfect right angles. Please re...

Many thanks to you Trevor and Dinah for hosting such a large gathering and allowing an opportunity to share your garden and railway. A slightly delayed beginning to our round of meetings due to the Welsh weather, but the blue skies in your pictures show how kind it was to us on the day. Some new mem...

Re: Imagine finding this in your back garden
Me neither. Despite having 16mm stock from portable layout exhibition use it never occured to me to build a garden railway until after the house renovation was complete. That was about 9 years later.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Hello Pharsical Phil, and thanks for your comment. You must be having sleepless nights if you are ploughing through my posts from so long ago, but I am grateful for your persistence. The crack (in waterproof tile cement powder with neat SBR mix) appeared in part of a building which was at the rear o...

No personal experience of Plateways kits, but 16 Mills kits are always a treat to build.

I don't do live steam and have no idea how it works, but I love to see the wonderful work of Grant so will be watching with interest.
Just to join in with the guessing game, I see a flexible connection between two articulated units... e.g. loco and tender?

Excellent video again Rik, you make it all look so easy, although we know there is much preparation and planning beforehand. Well worth the effort, so thank you for sharing your railway with us.

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
From my experience with any mix using SBR I have found that it doesn't like being applied directly to a wooden base. The wood will expand and contract causing cracks in the material mix, eventually leading to detachment from the baseboard. I now use a strip of roofing felt in the area before applyin...

Hi Andrew, I can sympathise, It's been ages since I was on here because I'm sad to say that my SVLR is officially closed and defunct. The track became unusable over 18months ago and the vegetation has crept in and over. I have to say I chose my plants well as it now presents a really good impressio...

Continuing the listing..... Transporter Wagons.... 100_0849.JPG I have three transporter wagons, the first shows a scratch-built Brougham carriage mounted on a laser cut flatbed wagon by Jerry Irwin which I cut both sides to form a step on which to mount the coach wheels. The second is another Jerry...
