I'm so sorry to hear the news Rod, I have no siblings but I'm sure there was an extra strength knowing he was there to support you in your times of need.
Take care,
Peter.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Thanks Andrew, I thought the light blue would reflect the dainty appearance of this tiny loco. It is in direct contrast to the other, much larger project on my workbench, which is to replace the lining on the PDF Double Fairlie. This is the one I originally lined with tape and has now been fitted wi...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
A start to the body paintwork. I'm painting small sections and lacquering each in turn before assembly. Some of the parts fit so closely together it would be difficult to reach them evenly without causing paint runs. Once dry I can mask the blue and paint the black areas..... 100_0464.JPG 100_0467.J...

A beautiful sight to see, lovely loco and ideal testing ground, which she mastered well.

Thank you Phil, that is most useful and I can work around it I'm sure. I still have little understanding of the fittings but as long as it looks purposeful I will be happy.

Just another day in Wales!... Crowd control management at its best, British tourists and visitors in familiar surroundings, a good day out for all the family.
Congratulations to the young owner of a working Mamod, a promising start there.

I'm looking forward to the next instalment👍🏻 Wait no longer.... Here she is in full grey primer ready for top coat paint. Colour as yet still undecided!.... 100_0453.JPG 100_0454.JPG 100_0455.JPG As planned, the boiler assembly, along with the front cab sheet is removable leaving the bunkers and ba...

That's bad luck Phil, possibly deeper score lines in the roof panel might help next time? Here's another jig for your growing collection..... IMG_5909.JPG IMG_5910.JPG Many roof panels are a similar radius so this can be adapted to fit by adding spacers as appropriate. I use a hardwood batten along ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
The cab mods mentioned above have now been carried out. There are four screws supplied which attach the smokebox and firebox to the frame, even with those removed it wouldn't be possible to slide the boiler from under the cab sheet due to the vertical motor poking up into the boiler. I have managed ...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Just out of curiosity I searched Google to find more information about the use of white lines on platform edges. I already knew they were introduced during WW2 for safety reasons on commuter lines etc. However, there were instances where they were not required and I doubt very much that narrow gauge...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
My Deluxe Perfect Plastic Putty arrived by courier this afternoon and I set about putting it to the test. It is a smooth paste and can be easily applied with a small blade or spatula. It dries quite quickly and is easy to sand with fine wet and dry paper. I haven't yet primed the surface but I feel ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I use Hycote filler primer so the lighter yellow might be the Halford's version, which is also good, but more expensive!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Still no filler in the post, so I have made some progress with the parts I am satisfied with and attached just a few rivet heads..... 100_0441.JPG 100_0442.JPG 100_0443.JPG It was easier to replace a number of printed parts with Plastikard and add bolt heads, such as cylinder tops. I think I have so...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Rod, don't get too disheartened about your 'Skylark' kit, I'm sure you can make a great job of it with a little work. That's what makes us modellers and not just kit builders! I'm progressing well with my 'Wren' with encouragement from member's advice on suitable fillers, also by watching the vast n...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Thank you all for your advice, plenty there for me to experiment with and I will report results.
Rod, I am a great fan of the Hycote range of spray paint and lacquers. Their filler/primer has worked for me in the past but this seems to be an extreme case!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Since making enquiries on this Forum about modelling putty I am now inundated with YouTube videos on the subject! It is amazing how many products are available, although they do seem to be very similar in texture so far.
Can anyone advise on Tamiya putty please?

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Many thanks for the information Rik. Having watched the video I have now ordered the Deluxe Perfect Plastic Putty to give it a try. I am surprised at how liquid it is..... reminds me of the medication I'm on!!!
