Re: Kerr Stuart diesel
They do look really good and well thought out to get the best finish. I think you should be quite safe with a spray coat of matt or satin lacquer on both sides to seal them against the weather.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I'm becoming more drawn-in to this project with the challenges involved. I don't try to make accurate models, just representations of the prototype, so I feel fairly confident I can make it look OK. The most important thing is to make it work and give the impression of the real thing, after all, the...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Thanks Graeme, and dudeface. The video link supplied shows the articulation from an end-on view, something not usually filmed. The usual side views make the tender appear to be a continuation of the cab, but that makes no sense. I understand now how it extends into the cab. With the tighter radius o...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Meanwhile I have been viewing Greg's multiple Garratt videos with envy and wondering whether I can justify a second Garratt on my line? Surely the real question is whether you can justify not having a second one? I should have got into so much more trouble during my lifetime.... I'm so easily led! ...

Re: Sandstone & Termite
They are magnificent beasts... wondering now whether I have room for two Garratts ? Thanks Peter, and everyone else who replied. There can be no doubt that you NEED two Garratts. Get to it! (ignore the question of room) 'Get thee behind me...' I can resist everything except temptation!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
If Peter needs a battery pack doing, then just drop me a PM. Thanks for your kind offer Steve, your message came in while I was responding to Philip so I think I have things in place now. Component Shop are my go-to suppliers and I buy additional useful parts at the same time. I will try to stock u...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I have only ever heard good things about Strikalite but never used them before. Having searched their site I see they do have stock of tagged, AAA, low self discharge, 900mAh 'Eneloop' batteries. I think they are more expensive though and have already pre-ordered from Component Shop. I have managed ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Peter, I spotted AAA and AA rechargeable batteries in the middle of Lidl today.. Not sure if that helps you, or not? Phil.P Thanks for the tip Phil, I expect they are of the type to fit in holders etc. so I could possibly use them elsewhere. Unfortunately I am very restricted for space in the narro...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Slow progress with the Edward Thomas build, I have discovered a national shortage of AAA battery packs! My usual supplier, 'Component Shop', is showing many battery packs and even singles of AAA rechargeables as 'out of stock'. It appears to be caused by long delivery times by shipping in the Red Se...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'
Following this with interest.... I have a couple of Boot Lane locos and experienced the same issues with surface preparation. However, they do make up into very nice models. Lining problem surfaces with styrene is the best solution (where possible) and gives a much better finish with far less troubl...

What a wonderful finish on your amazing structure, you have every right to feel pleased with it.
The water effect is most convincing too!
Top marks scored.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
As previously mentioned some time ago, and a few pages back, my current model is the Boot Lane Works 'St. Crispin' 3D printed kit. Purchased at last year's Welshpool and Llanfair 16mm scale exhibition, it has taken me some time to get started. This model can be built as either Corris Railway No. 4 o...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan
'...clacks straddling the boiler top, along with suitable firebox-top pipework..." I’m treading on thin ice here, because (likely obviously) I really don’t understand much of this stuff. This one's just a bit of fun though. My usual excuse. You have no idea how much better I feel after hearing...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Many thanks Philip and Rik, your comments are much appreciated, but I must remind you that I am totally incapable of doing many of the modelling tasks which you are both so competent at. It is our differences which make others take notice and become inspired by. There would be no fun, or challenge, ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Final details to complete the Garratt have now been attached. Not important but most satisfying. Firstly, the lamps, front and rear. These comprise a solid aluminium reflector turned by Keith (again) with Plastikard outer casing which I made to suit each end... 100_0696.JPG 100_0697.JPG Last of all,...
