Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Normal (???) service has resumed! I finally found the missing fishplates, relaid the track that had been lifted, repaired some of the other bits, undertook the necessary clearance and... ran a train! Nothing fancy, a battery loco and the first wagons that came to hand, but it was the first train for...

Re: It's a Sign!
It's been 20 years since I've wallpapered (we tend to just go for painted plaster), but when I did I don't think we used anything as hi-tech (!!!) as a plumbline, let alone one with a chalk reservoir! It came out OK, but it was only lining paper for painting uneven walls, no patterns to line up... ...

Re: It's a Sign!
So, does that mean you never do any wallpapering?? Because, using a plumbline, that's how you get a vertical line on a wall to line the edge of the wallpaper to. I've been doing it that way for 50 years and never had any probs ( he says modestly!). In fact you can actually get plumblines with...

Re: It's a Sign!
Hi Andrew, When my Dad used to get his wagons sign written the guy used to chalk out the sign first and then use that bit of stick that has a piece of cloth wrapped around it. He had many different sizes of those because some letters were really small, like the bottom of the doors on my Dads cabs w...

Re: It's a Sign!
Beautiful work! It's not easy to do, but very rewarding. I'll admit to cheating by making my designs in the computer, then tracing it out. Drawing it by hand isn't something I can do too well on 16mm scale shopfronts. Haven't yet tried it on something larger.. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway
Nice loco! Love the belt drive (is that what you'd call it?), beautifully quirky. And that corner's looking just right...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Hi Andrew, That's sad to see and hear. I hope something can rise from the ashes. Maybe not a phoenix, perhaps Y Rhiw Goch in your case? Changes are sometimes forced on us but they aren't always all bad. I hope that you can monopolise on the opportunity. I can sympathise, It's been ages since I was ...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Hi all, I've just watched Simon's film, and have to say that the whole line's looking wonderful. If I'm honest, I was privately sceptical that 3D printed buildings and other infrastructure would truly mellow into the garden as natural materials do, but I'm happy to admit that I was entirely wrong! R...

That's looking great!
I particularly like the overhead shots where you can clearly see the loco flexing through the curve...
The tanker train's looking very good too...

Re: Mamod Quarry - The saga continues…
Nice looking loco but I reckon Option One, sell it for £700, then - instead of spending money on R/C - put the extra towards a lovely geared Regner: https://www.gardenrailways.co.uk/regner-25460-vincent.html . I love my Regner - super reliable, and barely notices gradients (up or down), just purrs a...

Re: New Guy Introduction - Steam Newbie
My Roundhouse Bundy Fowler was bought through Anything Narrow Gauge, they sell a wide variety of used live steamers. Andy (I think that was his name  )tests and fettles every loco before sale. I mention this because like you, I am not in the UK. The loco was very well packed and has been a...

Re: Another Faller Railbus
Thanks chaps! I am pleased with how it's turning out, although it's more a case of colouring in than lining, in that I'm painting along either original moulded lining, or extra stuff I've added. It's pretty fiddly ( don't look too closely!) and time consuming (each line's needed two coats), so I've ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Congratulations Rik!
Although, since we can't quite be sure whether it's 32 or 34, and Peter may have forgotten a couple that have fallen down the back of the workbench, maybe we ought to just call it 38???

Sounds like a great plan to me, Peter, I'm going to enjoy spotting your trains!

Re: Another Faller Railbus
XI was actually planning a 3-car set with the middle one have both driving cabs chopped off and the other two being single ended! I really like that idea! I do actually have another railcar, but I've robbed loads of bits for the first two - I'm wondering about turning it into a twin cabbed diesel l...

Re: Another Faller Railbus
I've always liked these. I have an ETrain one that i started to repaint years ago that really needs stripping back and starting again. The green works very well on yours. The first coat of green I applied was from an old (possibly very old) can of spray paint I found knocking about somewhere. I kne...
