Re: Baseboard Construction

Thanks very much for the responses; one query, when the gravel boards dry out have you had problems with them slightly warping across the width so, say, 4 laid side by side creates a slightly wavy surface making it difficult to keep track flat? And a PS: When I said the ply lasted 25 years, to be st...

Baseboard Construction

(I think this is the right place for this topic, I can't see a section for baseboards; perhaps someone will re-direct me if it is better posted elsewhere) I have a raised station area, 18ft by 2ft, constructed of 18mm ply (supported by three longitudinal beams) covered in roof felt. It has lasted 25...

I & G Steam

I've bought some parts in the past from I & G Steam but now cannot find them. Are they defunct or perhaps some parts are now sold by someone else?

New Roundhouse loco

Roundhouse will be revealing their next loco on January 1st on their website; anyone have any clues, hopes, wishes (sensible ones!), etc to share with us?

Cheers for all the replies. Chris, that data sheet makes it sound horrendous, but as with most things its really a case of common sense when handling and using such stuff. Thanks again.

Gluing Peco track parts

I will soon be embarking on building an SM32 crossover from Peco parts for outdoor use, but in the past I have had difficulty in finding a bonding agent of some sort that will stick a Peco chair to a Peco sleeper with any sort of strength. Can anybody recommend anything?

Andy - many thanks for the warning ! This has ruled out forever any thoughts of trying to remove the springs and I shall progress with the 'spacer brake' idea. Hope you get yours fully sorted soon.

Sounds a good move. I did contact Roundhouse initially detailing the problem and asking about removing the springs but, perhaps oddly in light of what you have said, they did not suggest something along those lines. Still sort of sorted, so thanks again.

No, no washers with mine but gave me the idea - I've made a couple of crude (to be improved upon) card spacers and wedged them behind the wheel to act as a brake to overcome the spring's effects. Needs a little fine tuning with slightly thinner card but the principle seems OK. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks Tom Tom; I appreciate I can do that but it relies then on re-setting it back at pretty much the same place when switching it back on, and is not perhaps practical for children. Also raises the possibilities of altering the settings of the small knobs which the instructions say should not be t...

Roundhouse Harlech Castle, radio control springs.

I have recently become owner of a brand new Harlech Castle and needless to say it is really quite superb. There is however one niggle that really annoys me, and that is when you let go of the rotational speed control in instantly resets by springs to central 'Off', thus to keep the loco running you ...

I P Eng 'Punch' gears

I have a ten-year old IP 'Punch' that uses the budget chassis. It has twice worn the plastic gears out and a third time is approaching. Can anyone recommend a source of brass gears to replace them with? The axle being of 1/8 th rather than 3mm is the problem I am having.
Many thanks.

Fascinating thread. Just a simple thought on the "runs better backwards than forwards" line; has anyone tried re-routing and swapping over the steam-in and exhaust pipes? This should in theory make locos run better forwards by swapping it all around, but if not perhaps would give an indica...

Graeme, Thanks for replying. I should be able to follow a circuit diagram; I assume it would be similar for example to the IP engineering speed controller set up (which I have installed on a loco) only, as you say, with three components replacing the pot? Try me ! I should have added in my original ...

Speed control of instant start battery locos

I am sure everyone has a couple of battery locos without a speed control that when started go instantly from 'zero' to 'maximum' speed. Is there any way of creating a gradual, or stepped, increase in the speed once turned on (other than installing a manually operated 'pot' of some kind) to create a ...
