Car paint aerosols equivalent for railway colours

SR pre-war Malachite Green is closely approximated by Rover Java Green (I sprayed a test strip and compared it to Lord Nelson at the Mid-Hants Railway). Java green is perhaps a tone too light at 1:1 scale but it certainly gives an insight to the "ugh" reaction of some to Bulleid's Malachit...

Adding Class Numbers to Swift Sixteen Coach Doors

I've built two of these bogie coaches and would quite like to add Class Numbers (mine are all 3rd). Only problem is the deeply indented planking detail. Any thoughts on how to apply transfers over such an uneven surface? The number "3" would span 2 planks. Would a decal softenning solution...

Ballast Stones

I've just completed ballasting my 32mm track with Tenmille scale granite ballast. I'm very pleased with it although I suspect that it will be high maintenance as the local pigeons seem to quite like strutting all over and pecking at it!

Woody Bay Platform Egdes

Thanks. Mind blowingly boring, though, gluing the bricks to slales with pva! Yes, Swift Sixteen bogie coach. Ballast is Tenmille "scale" granite ballast. Again really tedious to lay and glue, especially with a basically ground level layout!

Lynton & Barnstaple Platform Edges

Just finished grouting the platform edges (made by gluing dolls house bricks to slate) for my Woody Bay station. Just need to decide how to infill behind the bricks now! Either gluing cut slate behind or using a thin screed of cement mortar. ./myff/1158986/PA021663.JPG ./myff/1158992/PA021664.JPG

These really are excellent kits. I've put 2 bogie coaches together, guided by Chris Birds article and am really pleased with them. This finish is not at all "plasticky". The most tedious art of construction is cutting out and gluing the windows. Some care is required but the end result is ...
