Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
It’s been a little time since I posted, but I thought that the slow progress that I was making was making the postings a bit boring. Anyway, I can now report that the area of the plastic decking has now been completely covered, including all the fresh buildings/sheds. The box bush got the deadly mot...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
I have been slowly progressing, adding more bits to the road/grass/fence panels between the running line and the siding. I have now reached the bridge, so I thought I had better do an update. This is the last portion fitted coming up to the bridge. DSCF5237 cropped sharpened.jpg And this is looking ...

Re: Best source for styrene (HIPS) sheet?
The sheet size of 915 x 610 mm is almost bigger than my workbench.
I get my ‘plasticard’, in A3 sheets from https://www.stationroadbaseboards.co.uk ... lastic.htm
I don’t usually spend more than about £30 an order (including postage), and you can get quite a lot for this sum.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
Another panel of the road has been done. The original intension was to have a skew level crossing over the siding, but now the road has been bent round to go off the edge of the timber board and onto the plastic decking. DSCF5099_opt_b.jpg The plastic decking is somewhat lower than the timber deck, ...

Sorry Ian, they don’t actually light up, and the wires are purely cosmetic.
I have enough trouble with doing the electrics on the locomotives.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
Thank you Philip, The posts are made from 5mm thick foamboard, and the bottoms are reinforced with a 20mm panel pin (in a pilot hole). I have recently been using foamboard for post and rail fences, with 5 x 5 posts with panel pin up them, and these stay out and, so far, have come to no harm. For the...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
I’ve just finished the varnishing of some lamp-posts (made from foamboard, plasticard and bits of electrical wire), which will be going to the Railway tomorrow. DSCF5005.jpg I’m not sure exactly where each one will be positioned yet, and if they should be left out or find a place for a box in the sh...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
The road surface is Woodland Scenics Fine Ballast stuck to the abraded surface of the foamboard with Gorilla Wood Glue. After everything getting a coat of Halfords primer, it is painted black and then dry-brushed with dark grey, lastly everything gets a coat of Wilco Yacht Varnish (clear satin). J0hn

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
One side of the Level Crossing fixed in place today.
The hot sun has caused some of the foamboard panels that were painted a dark colour to deform a little, but not a lot, and the odd extra screw here and there seems to hold most of the movement.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR

More panels of decking completed, slowly creeping to fill another area between the tracks. The Level Crossing is started to be laid out to fit in the remaining space. Opportunity was taken to refurbish (repaint) the station platforms.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
This week I have been able to complete the last bit of retaining wall abutment to the path (lift out) bridge. DSCF4862.jpg Also I took down the unfinnished boards for the next bit of decking re-covering to check on fit and levels. DSCF4863.jpg Also the station platform was now looking a bit shabby c...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
A few more things this time. The area in front of the station has been re-done. There are some new surfaces and effects – I have not done a road surface like this before, and the flowers came out better than I had feared. DSCF4845.jpg DSCF4849.jpg Also Another corner of the (lift out) path bridge (t...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
Thank you bazzer42. The fence posts are foamboard, the rails are plasticard. I do put a plasicard dowel (about 1mm dia) in the connections, just for a bit of added strength. I tend to use no timber on anything now-a-days. The sleeper fence (page 8 27 March) was mostly foamboard, with just the ‘rails...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
I’ve not been keeping up with what has been happening on the FBGR for the past few weeks, so I’d better try and catch up. The remaining piece of the retaining wall has been made and fitted. DSCF4805.jpg It all looks a bit clinical at the moment, but hopefully it will look better when some more bits ...

New Half Bridge / Retaining walls fixed in position today.
Having worked out how to fit these bits in, I am able to work out the length of the last bit of the retaining wall which I will now manufacture.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
Google “PVC foam board” brings up a few suppliers, including some offering standard sizes and the odd deal.
There are a couple of branded varieties, but check that it does say “PVC foam board”.

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
A lot of what Emmanuel Nouaillier uses is not foam PVC, but a foam encased between two sheets of paper. He does wonders by pealing off one of these sheets of paper and pressing and carving into the foam innards. Be careful when buying ‘foamboard’, as the foamed PVC is weatherproof whereas some other...

Re: Recent Stuff on the FBGR
It is Foamboard (foam PVC). Stuck together using the plastic rain water pipe cement from Wickes. The main boards are 5mm thick and the sticking out bits of ‘stoneware’ were 2mm thick which has been attacked with a Drimmel before sticking on. The stone joints were made using an old electrical screwdr...
