First forays into 3D printing

Hello, apologies I have been away for a while, a lot has happened. Due to a house move the garden railway was put on hold and other projects had crept, namely a couple of 009 locos and some aeroplanes and now the new year is in full swing I'm aiming to set up a new line in the new house. Something t...

Re: IP Engineering kits

They used to be, I have built both MDF and Plywood van kits. I must say I prefer the plywood over MDF as the surface seemed to slick to apply aerosol paints to any decent fashion and even after a good coat of MDF sealer they could still end up look a little fuzzy. On an interesting note their earlie...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Here we go again - not dead but sleepeth. After a sudden death of one of the main shareholders. The railway sudden found itself struggling to finance itself, with less and less trains to transport it's main traffic plus the advent of road transport the line gasped its last. https://live.staticflickr...

Re: Why do we do it?

I just love trains and had the money and inclination at the time. Oddly enough I have moved back into planes as trains have left me a bit burnt out with everything that's been going on in my life. Hence the avatar? Rik It's a constant in my life  Nah we lost our cat tragically and a few ...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Oh cheers for the heads up. I was thinking of going down the corrugated hut roof, however the lamp hut at Grosmont is a wooden one and it would be nice to keep the feel of it - with that in mind an old wagon body wouldn't go amiss. I do have an IP Engineering RNAD van but I'm thinking of turning tha...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Thank you everyone. Still a bit of work to do but it's looking more like a station now. There's still an empty space which is looking a little odd I'm thinking of adding a stores or lamp hut there and toying with the idea of either a grounded van body or a corrugated hut. Does anyone know where I co...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

I can approve of the thumbs up lol. a £75 bill from Virgin possibly as a result of live streaming the Ffestiniog Railway whilst bored at work. Eek, is that A Thing??! The FfR webcam has got me through many a dull Zoom meeting... Loving your work, especially all the detail. Like all the best lines, y...

Re: West Lancashire Light Railway

I think there was an article of it in Heritage Railway...oh some 20 years ago now. There was a photo of kids no older than myself then driving this little clapped out Ruston Hornsby diesel. An interesting little line that made me want to do it myself, but my friends were never into trains and there ...

Those books are superlative. You will have fun getting folks to look through the windows, and it will be worth their while  TBH Ge-Rik, you were at least one of the people guilty of inspiring me to do this and many other things (big admirer over here) haha tell me about it, I stuck the bui...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

That's a fair little point  The main reason is that I'm planning to light them up and I'm not a fan of seeing buildings lit up that look like empty high street shops on a night. It's a question I've been asking myself about the other building I'm working on, the station masters house. I was thi...
