Re: 7/8 Scale Model of a 1/2 Scale Model Boiler?

Building a simple mini boiler is one thing, getting a working piston and drive from it, with the correct "everything in the right places" is another. This I know from practice and a number of failures, but that said. without failures, we would have nothing  Always go for it I say  ...

Print it in something flexible so the chimney and domes can wobble in and out of alignment as it trundles down the track
My kinda think

Re: Marc Horovitz is Wrong. (IMO)

I think all three are parallel to the cab front. The chimney and front dome are definitely angled back slightly. I don't know about the rear dome. Compare Steve's drawing to the original picture. I think it's just an optical illusion, but no matter how it really was, this is just my interpretation ...

I agree, I tried both ways twice and parallel to the boiler is what looks closest to me.

in the bottom metal box in a ragleth for the throttle. It has one where there but whatever glue has failed as has the servo. I'm waiting for a new micro servo to replace it.
If you must glue it, then use epoxy after thoroughly cleaning the chassis and servo with something like isopropanol.

I found for that purpose use a "wing" servo and drill 2 holes and screw it in. Far easier to fit and replace. There are many ...

Thanks Steve, What glue is ideal for the job?
Either super glue or epoxy does the trick, but if you use too much of either, it's never coming out in one piece. Where is it being fitted and to what surfaces?

How do you attach a micro servo. Can I use glue?
You can and I have many times, but for replacements sake, it is better to make a bracket and screw it in.

Re: Vinyl cut stickers

I can't justify the m/c as a purchase, but next time SWMBO asks what I want for Christmas/Birthday/etc....! The Joy is fairly inexpensive and works over bluetooth, the Maker 3 is much larger and not only cuts files, but you can print and cut from it (to a separate inkjet or laser printer) and then ...

Cheers Steve. Sketchup doesn't have a native SVG save/export option but a bit of digging and I've found an export plugin that appears to work on a quick test rectangle. :D I can't justify the m/c as a purchase, but next time SWMBO asks what I want for Christmas/Birthday/etc....! Re: Vinyl cut stickers

That looks great Steve, another useful tool for railway modelling. Thank you Peter, I am glad you like it. I could not justify the cost for railways alone, but the wife has the Cricut for cards, vinyl cutting etc, so it makes sense to make it a multi purpose machine, or at least that's my excuse, l...

That is veeery impressive Steve, you are tempting me now! I'm not sure that the amount of lining I do would justfy the cost. Is it much use for anything other than railway lining and lettering? How do you do the designs, is there special software? I use Tinkercad to do it and export it as an ...

Wow, I'm missing a trick with the lining. I find using it on live steam is fine as the tanks don't get too hot
This is the last one I did. The whole thing is 3D printed, even the nameplates are 3D printed in resin and just painted.

Re: Vinyl cut stickers

We have the Circuit Joy and the Circuit Maker 3, both very capable machines. I have done lining for some of my locos with them, very useful indeed. I do have the steal them from the wife as they are both hers, lol.

Almost forgot, they make great paint masks too.

Re: Lady Anne DJB Whistle

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I would suggest using a metal geared small servo for a whistle as they are less prone to breaking under heat and stress. As for fitting it, I have never done for a whistle so I will leave that to someone who knows the task better. In the meantime, this might help? h...
