Re: Track Cleaning

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wondered if anybody had any photos of any track cleaning wagons? I heard recently of somebody who converted an LGB tank wagon for this purpose, and since I have on to hand I am considering a similar conversion, but I my attempts to find pictures have drawn a c...

Re: affordable transfers

I couldn't find a direct email address on the website, only the contact form. If you are able to contact him directly that would be much appreciated.

Re: affordable transfers

Is this firm still in business? I tried using their online contact form a week ago but have had no reply.

Alternatively, can anyone suggest any other manufacturer that can supply custom transfers in 16mm scale?

Thanks - I will have a look at the O-ring.

Roundhouse will likey replace it free of charge if you send the old one to them.

Even though the engine is long out of warranty?

Safety valve

Hi everyone, Sorry for my long absence from the GRF - it's nice to be back :) Once again, I'm having a little difficulty with my long-serving Russell! On its recent visit to the Vale of White Horse Railway, the first time I tried to steam her, the safety valve was lifting even though the pressure ga...

Would you believe that the additional plate on the restored Ashover coach (Restored GVLR 2014) was the cause of more arguments than the rest of the restoration? Yes. Having worked with volunteers for many years at a number of different railways, I'm afraid that doesn't surprise me at all... ...

Fantastic work! Looks like you should be ringing up your local preserved lines and offering your services to their C&W Departments :-P

Cameras

My trusty little digital camera has served me faithfully for over ten years now, but I think the time has come for me to upgrade. Anybody have any recommendations for a good camera for the railway photographer? I'm not looking for anything too fancy or expensive, just a step up from the point-and-sh...

I must learn to be a little bit more specific, I was really referring to mainland Britain. Of course, the other area where one could be pedantic is: what do you mean by narrow gauge? The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch has 'boxes at Hythe and New Romney... ;) (I couldn't tell you anything about them th...

How nice to see a B-class in red! I think people often forget that DHR engines were once painted red, and personally I think it suited them, but sadly one very rarely sees it modelled!

Very sad news indeed. I, too, have had experience of working on a railway which suffered frequently from vandalism, including one arson attack during my time there. It seems that this kind of problem is very difficult to escape. Are there any other Midland 'boxes on Network Rail that might become av...

The "holly green" as depicted by Accucraft would probably have been the engine's original livery as delivered in 1926. The light green you are thinking of is "Ailsa green", which became the standard livery after Lord Ailsa took over the IoMR in 1968. Although Mannin carried Ailsa...

Hmm...Ok then, worth a try. So how far apart would I need to set my solebars (for 45mm gauge)?

(Sorry, I know, I'm full of questions! )

If you want to cut them in anyway they are tough. I used a grinding wheel to shape a set up to my requirements. Oh dear...I was worried you might say that :( Unfortunately I only have basic hand tools available to me at the moment. Looks like I'll just have go for the GRS W&L-pattern axleboxes ...

Accucraft Axleboxes

I notice that Accucraft axleboxes are available as separate items from suppliers such as Track Shack. I just wondered whether anybody had any experience of using these in scratch building projects? The reason I ask is because I'm considering using a set of the W&L axleboxes for my sheep wagon pr...

If you're going to make a basic locomotive why not choose a basic prototype? they could so easily have chosen an actual 'Jack' like the earlier Cliff Hill example and its brother named 'The Rocket' and there you have a great opportunity to choose one with a quirky name! I agree that there are a lot...

I can also think of a few items off the top of my head, e.g. "Wren" No. 3114, now at the VoR. But I agree it would be useful to have a complete list. Surely, there must be one out there somewhere?
