The pic from Butterley was encouraging.  I would have thought that you would have got more takers on National Hangover Day for a steam up.  It used to be the case when anyone mentioned doing anything on Boxing Day of New Year's Day I used to say 'I'm in' because I am usually bored off my bottom by ...

Excellent work again, fitting the motor, batteries and controller into such a small body is already a fine piece of work before you go and put a body of that quality on it.

Every time I think about a scratch build, some one (Normally Rob at Swiftsixteen) threatens to produce a kit that is light years ahead of anything I would build. This has been the case for many years, in all scales. You find the one (very grainy) picture of a unique loco, use it to produce a set of...

Good to see that you managed to run trains for new year, it's something I used to do but the last couple of New Years Days have been rather nasty weather wise (including today, throwing it down and 60+mph winds).

It depends on the ambient temperature, and dare I say it the loco. For example, my Russell had no trouble on straight butane running today. However, I have had some issues in the past when it gets below 5 degrees Celsius. These can be worked around though, such as keeping the gas indoors until you c...

ANLR Christmas Steamup 2014

It's been a while since I posted photos of a 16mm Association North West Area Group steamup, but I took at fair few that are worth sharing at the steamup on my own line today. The middle of December is the anniversary of the opening of my line, 2014 being the 7th Anniversary. Despite having a line f...

I can't help but wonder if my Millie would be an effective meths fired loco.
I've always wondered if the fact that Roundhouse use a Millie for the diagram about Meths firing on their website is an attempt to make someone actually try it....

I've seen footage on youtube, but it was a while ago and I'm not sure how you would go about finding it. Putting DLB draincocks into the search bar might work.

I think it was dispersed far and wide, I think that there was an auction to sell it all. I know where some items ended up, such as the former Jaywick/New Brighton/R&ER coaches, which ended up at the Windmill Farm Railway, and the former Ffestiniog mobile skip "Monster" built for the de...

Some nice photos, and interesting locos. That grimy Sandy River looks lovely, but strange that its got a Mull and West Highland badge on the tender.

I have actually visited a 5 inch gauge line with a grade of around 1 in 15, and would back up what you say about only using steel rail (there was some alloy track on the hill which the steam loco kept slipping on), otherwise another major consideration is braking (the battery loco at the above menti...

I'm afraid that line had a very short life indeed, I think it was taken up not long after the series was filmed, and John is not in the hobby at all now as the religion he took up prohibits him from having hobbies... That series, and in particular the EHLR is the main reason I'm into garden r...

Thanks for taking the time to go through all this. I did something similar with one of my early scratchbuilding efforts, but not to anything like the same sort of precision and it rather showed.

A friend of mine has a Baldrig body on his Edrig, it is maybe a bit taller then a Ragleth. However, my friend has reduced the height of his, I think he used the Edrig chimney as a guidance and reduced the cab height to match.

According to Boyd, they look a bit "squarer" I would say then the FfR ones, maybe with a bit bigger capacity. Certainly, they were visually different. There may be photos around the internet, and thinking about it I'm sure I've seen photos in books as well as the drawing in Boyd.
