It seems like it might make a fairly decent looking 2-2-0 tender loco!

Aren’t all railway locomotives “traction engines” if one is being really, really annoyingly technical and pedantic?
Yes.

To keep the conversation on track, here's an early American loco that seems to fit the bill:

What is this one? You don't see many American 2-2-2's. Kinda looks like a "storkleg" toy but with a trailing axle.

Hi Steven and welcome to the forum. :hello2: If you click on anyone in this thread's profile and check the "last active" date, you'll notice that they haven't logged in for years, so Annie isn't going to see that PM. That's why replying to old threads like this generally isn't well accepted... I kno...

It's a railway loco not a traction engine, although the original was built by a traction engine maker.
Well technically I think it's a rail traction engine. I'm pretty sure that's what Aaron meant.

Re: 7/8 Scale Model of a 1/2 Scale Model Boiler?

Most ( all?) aerosol cans carry the warning "Do not incinerate even when empty". I know you are not intending to incinerate it but applying a naked flame to part of it would effectively achieve the same result! It would be filled with water so it would be kinda hard to ignite the residue, but don't...

Re: In search of the ugliest train

I always wondered why early toy trains often looked so spindly and had smokestacks of comical proportions. Turns out the real ones did too! Much of the reason for the spindliness would have been to allow them to sell for ridiculously cheap prices, around $20 in today's money for a live steam loco.

Besides, I don't know if I can change the name for the entire subject.

Yes, the OP can. You need to go back to the very first post in this thread and edit it by changing the "Subject".
However, with a long rambling thread like this one, you run the risk of folks not finding it again.

I just looked it up and apparently the pressures vary from 2-8 bar, I assume that means most cans can take 10 bar or more.

Re: 7/8 Scale Model of a 1/2 Scale Model Boiler?

Is this a terrible idea? (Probably.) It's a pressure vessel, but it does say "may burst if heated"... Does anybody know what kind of pressure these can take?

I think you should try it if you want to, just don't be too discouraged if it doesn't work out well.
I've attempted several piston engines, and the only two that worked were lego vacuum engines, so by now I expect failure but I would be extremely happy if it worked.
