Re: Workshop Wednesday - Fitting Brake Pipes
I do a nice line in highly detailed vac pipes, designed by Ian Mellors. 3D resin printed in matte black, I have 3 designs, all £12 for 6, including UK postage.

Re: Print nozzle driving into the print bed
I gather that with most probes, you can decide to probe once or twice. Mine is set to single probe, as that seems to provide sufficient accuracy for excellent adhesion, and good layer finish

Re: Print nozzle driving into the print bed
Nothing wrong with the Jyers firmware. I use a similar build, just customised a little to better suit my hybrid machine. 25 probe points take about 75 seconds to probe, and then the machine starts automatically. Yes, more points means a better map, and certainly its reduced recalibration of the bed ...

Re: Print nozzle driving into the print bed
Ahh, ok, I thought you were concerned about the build plate not being flat. Just me not reading your post correctly. In which case, I would not worry about the bracket being completely aligned, just repair or replace the probe and reset the Z height. I use a glass bed, sprayed every few prints with ...

Re: Print nozzle driving into the print bed
It's just the Z height that needs recalibration. If the bed trolley is bent, then replace it, but the glass plate will tend to flatten out the build plate to within the tolerance required by the probe and firmware on the printer to correct. Just checking you are running the right firmware and g-code...

Re: Every Day is a School Day
Effectively you have created a pump, driven by the motion of the loco. In forward gear, without any drain cocks, this pressurises the boiler, until the resistance becomes too much for the tug to move it. By setting a low geared reverse, you are probably allowing enough bypass in the motion to preven...

Re: A couple of locos ready for testing
The Fairly Fairlie is coming along. I laser cut a chassis out of wood to check the fit prior to milling it out of aluminium. Wheel size might need to be increased, but they do need to be a little bit undersized to give more room for the bogie to swing.

Re: 3D printed vacuum hoses
Herewith the 4 options now available - plus of course, the ability to scale to any size.
I've added a version with underbody support, plus a couple to fit existing LGB stock.

Re: 3D printed vacuum hoses
Not an issue with a mix of sizes. I've also created a couple of alternative designs for LGB and other manufacturers, as easy replacements or swap outs.

Re: 3D printed vacuum hoses
I'm sure the answer is yes. Do you just need a flat bar section a few mm into the pipe section, located on the upper side of it?

3D printed vacuum hoses
Having failed to find any suitable files, I asked a good friend of mine to draw something up. This is the result. If there's any interest, I will sell these for £12 for 6, UK postage included. I can scale them as required to 7mm, 16mm, 1/32 etc. Just let me know the size you would like. Vac Hose 16m...

Re: A couple of locos ready for testing
Progress has been a little slow, but the Fairly Fairlie has had a couple of coats of paint, and I've built a couple more bug boxes. Train colour is a little lighter than FR paint their trains, but not as khaki as the photo might suggest. I am hoping to get the chassis designed this week, and possibl...

Re: A couple of locos ready for testing
A single Fairlie is on the list, so I need to work on adapting the Double Fairlie to create it. The chassis should work for either, and I designed the wheels at the weekend. For the initial build, the wheels will be 3D printed, but the aim is to eventually replace them with metal tyred wheels to imp...

Re: A couple of locos ready for testing
Yes, it would be quite impressive if the Fairlie could traverse that track, it would probably meet itself coming back though! I've printed off some of the less extreme curves, and I can certainly see a use case for them. I am going to redesign the point, to make it less toy like, but I do see a micr...

A couple of locos ready for testing
I have a rule that I won't start one project until I have cleared the backlog of others, particularly larger and more expensive things like locos. As the current Mrs Three Minutes of Fame was out for much of today, I had a chance to finish these two to the stage that I could take them for a run. Thi...

Thanks for the video and testing under load. Would you mind sharing your design? I would like to add it to the files I've put on Thingiverse.com if you have no objections.

Re: Ffestiniog Bug Boxes and Flying Benches - first run around the garden
Nice work! Can I suggest you get the magnets such that they just protrude, and make full contact. That will significantly improve the holding force. It's probably easier to fit all North magnets using superglue first, and then do the South magnet once the North magnet glue has dried. Closing up the ...
