Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

That would be fun, Boris. I was able to guess at quite a few peoples' identities, plus being "Keith from Canada" helps in my case; there's only one of me.

Re: Brandbright coach paint schemes

Here is my one completed Brandbright coach, with my maroon "Billy". It's not Roundhouse maroon though, it's "Wild Raspberry" Tremclad enamel rust-paint from a spray-bomb. I've been told it's pretty close to the Roundhouse colour but I've never had the chance to compare them. I pa...

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

Forums are my life-line as there is very little interest in this hobby where I live. There is no one around to discuss ideas with face to face. We don't have model engineering societies like you do in UK. This makes it very hard to fulfill my ambition to manufacture locos. Therefore I'm greatful fo...

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

I like the idea of the "slomo" in the tender. While I greatly appreciate the contribution it's made to the realistic motion of small steam locomotives, I find that one thing I do not like is how difficult it is to hide the unit between the frames of a little 0-4-0. On a six-coupled locomot...

Re: 5" gauge 0-6-0 'Sweet Pea'

I'm pretty interested in this project. I just don't have much constructive input- but I watch out for new posts and read every one. I find the Bagnall "drum" boiler very elegant and does away with a lot of the tricky and high-stress bits like the mud ring and throat-plate.

Hi Mike, if you fancy something like an SL1 but with all the upgrades, have you considered a "Janet" made by Roy Wood? They look like great little engines and are basically just that- an upgraded Mamod.

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond

I don't fancy American prototypes, but what about a CANADIAN one? Ha ha. I wonder if a RH "Davenport" with 32mm frames could be modified to run on 45mm with wheels on the outside? Would make a credible MLW locomotive for the Canadian "Huntsville and Lake of Bays Railway". 35F833E...

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond

Being a Yankee, I love the new Davenport, and if the delivery date is on or after a certain month, I am going to switch my preorder to one of those instead of a Lady Anne. Ah, I thought of you when I saw the announcement Mike! Not my cup of tea, but an interesting choice, and I look forward to seei...

Re: Nameplates

How small can you make nameplates with this technology? My Dad had a OO scale "Royal Scot" that he wants nameplates for, he was asking me about it but I don't know if they make them this small.

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

Those "Riverdale" boilers don't have feed pumps. Apparently designed to carry enough water to last until fuel exhaustion. I wonder if the design takes into account that the fire will die when the blower stops. I've seen them running at expositions in public, so must be insurable at least u...

Good, haha I was worried you were going to rest on your laurels a bit after the ossie Hunslet and I wouldn't be able to look forward to seeing your build updates. Looks like I was worried for no reason.

Well I was quite shocked when I opened the latest issue of "16mm today" and found a memorial article dedicated to Brian or MDLR as he was known on this forum. I'd like to extend condolences to anyone on this forum who was friend of his. He was one of the many contributors to this forum who...

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

I guess I miss some of the younger folk who used to be on this forum and no longer seem to participate, like Douglas and Zach Bond, for instance. Both of whom were very interested in garden railways and had some very good models. I'm friends with Douglas elsewhere, but the last time I saw or heard a...

Re: New Mamod Hunslet?

Whether or not it resembles an actual Hunslet, I think that's a very good-looking engine. I think Mamod has hit the nail on the head with this one. With some lining and a driver figure, it would look really excellent.

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

I am very impressed with this engine. Your usual excellent fit-and-finish and smooth running are extra-evident in this machine. At first I was astonished that you chose to use oscillating cylinders, but I have to admit I love the sinuous look this engine has as it moves along. It reminds me of an os...

Re: TVT - The lost Tribe

I love the black paint you use on your models. That and the natural light in your photographs reminds me of the habit of Canadian locomotive- builders (and everyone else for all I know) of giving black locomotives a wash of very dilute lime for their official builder's photographs. I suppose it was ...
